Yes you’ll be surprised
Yes it’s surprising what the real reasons are as uncovered by the author though as you think about it more and receive more and more examples and information it all makes sense

If digital is changing your industry, your company, or your job, you need to read this book
TL;DR (summary) Digital is changing everything - the change just isn't equally distributed. Change is hard, harder and harder without a plan. And, hard to plan without deep knowledge and experience. This book describes what digital can and should mean for you business, and how to achieve SUCCESSFUL change (i.e. don't fail). Without the need to be a digital or technology expert. More detail: As we accelerate into the Fourth industrial age, technology is already transforming everything we do, and how we do it. The potential seems limitless. Yet, the same approaches we used in the past will not work this time. Tony Saldahna has developed, used, refined and demonstrated the success of his five step plan to ensure Digital Transformations succeed. You can see the list in the book preview. The book is remarkable in explaining the need and value of digital transformation and at the same time providing a practical and executable plan for implementation. This is accessible to anyone with a reasonable grasp of business - you don't have to be an expert in digital, technology, innovation or change. (if you were why would you need the book?). This is ESSENTIAL reading for all owners, founders, boards and managers in all disciplines. So, whether you're the CFO or in marketing, sales or product, read this book and start your digital transformation today.

Audio book voice is not good...
Tried to listen to this while driving to work/home. The repetitive themes and words blathered by this dude in a lifeless delivery over audio books is a recipe for veering the car into the median. Though the content *may* be good, this is not a pleasurable listen as an audio book. Will have to read to see if it's worth it or not. Some high level top down strategy alignment stuff but if you didn't already think about that you're probably in the fail department anyway. Should be better as the book goes on but hard to listen to with the poor delivery.

Resource for Executives and Board
This book provides an excellent framework to view digital transformation in terms of five stages starting from foundational to Living DNA. The book has very practical advice for any organization or leader at any stage of the digital transformation. The most important insights include favoring speed to achieve success with digital transformation. Execution is critical and is identified as a barrier. Executive sponsorship and support to tolerate failure and ability to take smart risks is key. While speed is key, there are two other ideas important to success, effective change management and using a portfolio of ideas so the portfolio effect will produce breakthrough transformation initiatives. The ideas are presented through relatable examples from the industry as well as Tony Saldanha’s own executive experience leading transformation efforts. This book is useful for a technology leader at any level and will especially be a great read for senior leadership and corporate board members.

Worth Your Time
In a subject that is over-populated with buzzwords and shiny sci-fi promises, this book provides practical guidance and real-world stories I can put to good use. I only recommend one out of every maybe dozen books that I read. While it isn't a perfect book (sure, some things repeat), it is one can easily recommend with five stars! Much of the book's emphasis is on the author's direct experience managing IT & GBS functions for Proctor & Gamble all over the world, but he also mines lessons learned from the successes and failures of other complex and large-scale digital transformational efforts. As someone who has been a minor player in digital transformation initiatives for some big clients, I found his model extremely helpful and will use it to better serve my clients in the future. The biggest take-home for me was that even (especially?) at such a large scale, it's the basics of evidence-based practices, structured discipline, culture and leadership that make all the difference.
