The band was more like a sweatband and thick. Plus I thought there was a smell to the product.

It's just a comfortable hat.
Nothing fancy, nothing elaborate, great for cooler temperatures to keep your noggin warm. Although I've only (hand) washed it once, there's no degradation of the fabric.
