NAD C658 Preamp/DAC/BluOS streamer

Wow this thing sounds good. I switched from a Sonos Connect to this, playing through Audioengine A5+ speakers. I didn't think it was going to make much of a difference but I'm hearing more details and it sounds somehow smoother and richer.Also the Roon integration is great. My Roon Nucleus found it instantly. The NAD's display has just enough info about what's currently playing via Roon.My NAD and the Nucleus are both connected to the internet via Ethernet. I didn't set up the NAD's wi-fi. Dunno if it makes a difference.Even though it still seems like too much money for what it does, I'm loving it.

By far the best streamer I’ve ever used. Although not in the same class, it outclasses both its cousin bluenode2i and Cambridge audio cxn v2. The nad is just amazing. Added to its versatility with its multiple analog and digital inputs which include a phono stage (MM), the nad can also work as a preamp.

I am very surprised to read the negative review of this NAD Streamer, DAC, and PreAmp. While I do not personally own this particular model I do have the NAD-10 which adds the amplifier section and provides a screen to show album art among other things. This product I have heard and to my way of thinking it sounds extremely good. Several British high fidelity magazines have given it five stars. It uses an ESS Sabre 32bit DAC which gives you high resolution file play at 24/192 and above. The player also has NADs Room Correction Software which helps compensate for room acoustics providing an even better sound experience. Don't dismiss this unit based on a single review. I believe it is worthy of consideration.

Unless you have no ability to discern high end sound you should avoid this unit. It was built with a lot of cost cutting. The op amps they use were mediocre twenty years ago. It has balanced outputs but the chassis is not fully balanced. I had one for about a month and the digital glare was so pronounced even my wife couldn't stand it. There are scores of forums discussing numerous issues with these, both software and hardware related. It sounds like it's a good deal for all it does at the price they're asking but it's not.

Die Installation bzw Inbetriebnahme ist aufwändig. Hier muss man zuerst die Betriebsanleitung aus dem Internet laden und aufmerksam lesen. Dann muss man den bluos Controller aus dem Internet laden und auf einem Steuergerät z.B. Desktop installieren und kann dann mit dem Gerät eine Netzwerkverbindung aufbauen. Dann muss man den vorgeschriebenen Firmware updaten durchführen. Die Dirac Software muss ebenfalls aus dem Internet geladen werden. Für die Raum Einmessung sollte das mitgelieferte Mikrofon unbedingt mit dem USB Adapter direkt mit dem Gerät verbunden werden. Dann funktioniert alles wie beschrieben und der Hörgenuss ist super ...

Leider hat das Gerät wiederholt Aussetzer und verzehrt ab und zu!Dies ist bei NAD seit längerem bekannt und ich wunder mich, dass trotzdem noch Geräte mit diesem Problem verkauft werden!Leider habe ich das erst in den Foren gelesen, als ich das Gerät bereits gekauft hatte🥺Muss es jetzt bereits ein 2tes Mal zur Reparatur senden, in der Hoffnung, dass der Fehler endlich gefunden wird, obwohl dies nach dem letzten Update von bluos eigentlich sein sollte.Sehr ärgerlich, da ich jetzt wieder für mehrere Wochen auf das Gerät warten muss.Das Gerät kam heute das 2te mal aus der Reparatur und funktioniert immer noch nicht.Finger weg!!!!

Habe mir den Vorverstärker wegen des Dirac Einmesssystems gekauft. Damit kann ich raumbedingte kleine Unzulänglichkeiten, besonders im Bass und den unteren Mitten, ausbügeln. Zusätzlich kann ich altersbedingte Höreinschränkungen in den höheren Frequenzen ausgleichen, was wunderbar funktioniert. Zudem kann man damit hochauflösendes Streaming durchführen. Eine „eierlegende Wollmilchsau“, die bestens in eine hochwertige Anlage eingebunden werden kann.

I was initially reluctant to buy this one because of the many bad reviews. But regret not buying it sooner. Operation, ease of use and sound exceed my TEAC NT-505. Provides a warm and full sound with a lot of detail. Used with a Purifi class D AMP. Perfect match with my KEF R7's.
