This stuff really works ... even 25 years later
I've just read "13 Fatal Errors" as part of my on-boarding process for a new company I just joined. It's pretty interesting to see how the sales management team at my company has internalized many of the recommendations in this small book in managing and motivating its sales force. It's one thing to read a management book like this and quite another to see its ideas being applied in a real environment. From that perspective I can say that many of the issues Steven Brown identifies and the solutions he suggests to address those issues are absolutely critical -- at least in this company's case.Another reviewer commented that the word "Fatal" in the title is way overstated. Brown himself in his Preface said that when he was writing the book many of his friends and colleagues warned him that he was being too negative. Why not put a more positive spin on his advice? He decided to go with the negative because he felt at the time of writing that people learn more from their failures than from their successes. As we emerge from a punishing recession and as performance, failing and losing one's job seems to have much more impact, this title and perspective feel all the more timely ... even 25 years after its publication. So maybe the word Fatal isn't an overstatement after all.As I was reading the book and thinking back to my career events 25 years ago, that was about the time I assumed my first management job. Over that 25 years I've had my own successes and failures. As another reviewer commented, some of this is common sense and trying to treat others as you think you'd like to be treated. Yet the sheer range of these 13 areas all in a concise description makes the book particularly valuable. I only wish I'd read this book when it was first written and I was managing for the first time, because of the insights it offers. Sure, the ideas may be old and the used copy I bought from Amazon is faded and a little musty, but I have a feeling I'll be referencing it for some time to come.

This is important information
If you are a reader and not a student of betterment then this maybe simplistic and you will read it in one sit down. If you are serious about understanding basic fatal flaws that certain personalities will not recognize as flaws and want to avoid your conditioned actions and reactions from fouling up your business and want to make your business better and the atmosphere in your business better for everyone then this is a book for you to keep by your side to look at when things start going sideways and you can't figure out why. I have read this once and studied it many times.

Best book to give someone interested in leadership
I've literally bought dozens of copies to distribute to my team. I was introduced to this book about 15 years ago, and while the author slightly dates himself, the book still resonates. I buy it for anyone on my team who ever approaches me asking about leadership development. The chapters are short, digestible, and ring true. Great book to push self-reflection and growth.
