The MaxMed Heat Moisture Exchange filter (HME) for CPAP machines is designed to provide passive humidification during CPAP therapy. The HME filter is attached to a mask elbow in order to take in heat and moisture from the user’s exhaled breath. The moisture is then returned into the air stream for inhalation to help prevent dryness at the lungs. MASK: When selecting a mask, the MaxMed HME filter for CPAP machines will not work with masks that have a short tube extended from the mask frame. The HME filter must be very close to the moisture of exhale air to function properly. It must be connected to a mask with a simple elbow in order to give optimal results. CLEANING: The MaxMed HME cannot be cleaned. Originally, the manufacturer found the HME to be suitable only for one night’s use. After further research and testing, the device has been approved for up to seven (7) night’s usage. The MaxMed HME filter is manufactured in the USA and compatible with all CPAP, APAP, or BiPAP machines.

Better than the CPAP humidifier.
I just gave a chance on these so I wouldn't have to rig up a humidifier while traveling with my CPAP. To my surprise my mouth and airway are better with these than with the CPAP humidifier. I will continue to use them.

Good for added moisture
Exact replacement for my travel CPAP. They work well.

For CPAP humidity.
Often difficult to find distilled water while traveling internationally. This worked to substitute for distilled water for humidity. The machine did get hot by morning. It was unfortunate to dispose of these plastic devices every three days.

Mini CPAP humidifier
These are great for adding some humidity to my mini CPAP that does not have a humidifier. I actually put a tiny bit of water in these before I go to bed. Make sure you put it on the side of the hose closer to your face. It works better that way.

decreases noise with Resmed AirMini
I have been using my regular Resmed AirSense 10 hose and mask with the AirMini through an after market hose adapter. The AirMini is quite noisier than the AirSense and found that these humidifier filters help decrease the noise level when inhaling. Also added some distilled water to the filter itself to increase the moisture level and had varying degrees of success (a little harder to get air in/out initially but vastly more moisture during the night). This product seems like a winner!

I tried them to ease travel, now use daily.
Filling a reservoir with distilled water every night is no longer necessary for me! I bought them to use with my travel CPAP since it didn’t have any type of humidifier & I often visit family in arid climates. Greatly improves the moisture level of my mucus membranes with so little effort. Now that I have returned home to a more moist climate (Pacific Northwest USA), I’m using it with my regular CPAP (and no water( with great success. From reviews, seems clear they last for different periods of time for individual users. I’m still trying to figure out how often I should plan to change them.
