Protect it with an overreach boot
My rescue quarter horse mare has front hoof birth defects with worsening episodes of abcess for years as she sinks her foot in a self made puddle of her urine and manure looking for relief , specially after hoof trimming , apparently learned from the periods of ice soaking for episodes of laminitis ( She is very smart but not a doctor ) . She has been down several times almost dying. She is loose in a large pen . I've been able to trim her feet , fit a medicated pad , cover it with the bottom half a sock of mine for quick fitting since she could hardly put weight in the other front foot for seconds and fit a longer sock of mine over all . Then fit the boot , in her case , size 5 but I bought size 6 also to allow more room for the dressing . I've been changing the whole settings every one to 3 days as she recovered , for about a month now and watch for fly larva as they appeared once at the beginning and controlled by pouring a little alcohol around the top of the boot over the sock between cures . She has recovered having also penicillin daily for a month and the hoof is clean after further trimmings and growing well . Exelent product that did the job perfectly and now that the foot is better and needs no medicated pads I'm transitioning to a boot that allows for better ventilation and more active walking . I used 4 boots to allow for cleaning and drying after each cure and all of them survived biting before fitting an overreach bell boot and are all reusable .

Hole in toe
The good: I like how this boot fit and kept the hoof clean during our winter "mud season." The ease of putting it on and traction on the ground is superb. For that reason I wanted this boot. The bad: After only wearing it for 2 days, the boot now has a hole in the toe where the rubber met the fabric. I am not happy that my boot now won't keep the hoof clean due to the hole that I can't fix.

Fantastic
My rotten gelding is a pro at removing is wrapping. He seems to get accesses quite a bit and I have tried numerous trick when wrapping his hoof but it never lasts long. I purchased this boot because he is out 24/7 and it works fantastic! It is hard to get on and off because it is snug. I also will not leave it on for an extended period of time. I left it on her 2 days and he was very sweaty and his heel bulb was pruned. I will alternate from this boot to a wrap and the boot will be ready for riding while he still needs wrapped.

Great but not as durable as advertised
We purchased these for our TB x Draft when he had a serious hoof infection and partial sole loss. The boot was advertised as safe for turn out but it was not designed to last. The good: it came in a big hoof size perfect for our boy and it was relatively easy to put on and off. The thick sole was cushioning and protective and the neoprene conformed perfectly to his hoof and pastern area. The bad: The zipper easily slipped and eventually broke. The neoprene was also very hot and would absorb water if it was wet outside. The neoprene also ripped easily. We ended up adding a bell boot to protect the zipper and neoprene. Despite all of our efforts, Bruce destroyed 5 of these boots in a 2 month span, including ripping the sole off of 2 boots. I highly reccomend them for light use and limited turn out, but they don't hold up well to routine turnout and wet conditions.

Seems to run small
I measured according to the manufacturers instructions but had to go up a size before I could the boot on. works great in place of hoof abscess bandages. get 2 to allow one to dry while using the other!

Fell apart immediately. Waste of money.
Used this product per package instructions to include the recommended overreach boot. Fit was measured per instructions and fit as recommended. Used on an unshod trimmed 30 yo old horse that doesn’t move much. He did wear it in (dry) turn out as advertised is ok and horse walks but doesn’t run or twist etc. in less than 24 hrs the rubber base began to separate and the neoprene had runs in the material. Within 48 hrs. the rubber sole was completely detached and my horse now had a neoprene bracelet. For convenience, I wanted this to work but I got better results with duct tape and vet wrap. The boot is not worth the price.

Easy on and off but doesn’t wear well
This boot goes on and comes off easy. I found the sizing was accurate too. However, this boot didn’t allow the hoof to breath and retained moisture causing the hoof to be wet. My horse also tore it up within two days where the zipper meets the base. The only part left attached at the base of the zipper is the foam second layer.

Size
We originally ordered tru to size (5) then had to return because to snug. We ended up ordering 2 sizes larger (7) and they fit perfect!! Great quality and durable plus no slip.
