These paint pens are easy to use, easy to control, have good flow and solid, opaque colors. The paint is also really durable, nearly impossible to remove or scrape off after application. However, the paint bleeds when a varnish is applied on top.I tested each color four ways: one on stone without a varnish finish (silver “test” on side with white flower); one on stone, applying finish over pen after it dried (silver, red, and gold “test” down center); one on top of a layer of acrylic paint, with finish over both after they dried (silver pen on blue acrylic); and one on top of finish (red and silver pen on left and right edge, first pic).I found the best results came with using the paint pen on stone that already had a varnish finish. That way other paint on the stone is protected, and I can still use the paint pen without the color bleeding. My only concern is that the paint will chip/scrape or take UV damage this way - time will tell.*the varnish I use is Krylon UV-resistant clear gloss acrylic coating in a spray can.
