EXCELLENT
This book is well written with just the right amount of humor. It bridges the gap between being Christian (I'm not) and still be able to be an environmentalist conservative. You can be both! Letting pigs be pigs chickens be chickens and letting the farm animals have a job they were meant to do honors them and makes for happy respected animals. This book connects the dots on why factory farming is disgraceful and so much more. Worth the read no matter where you stand spiritually, socially or politically.

Convicting. Thought provoking
Salatin hits the nail on the head. As a fellow Christian concerned about where my food comes from, and our instructions from the Bible to be good stewards of our resources, I have never read a better example of how to be a witness through our behavior in the marketplace than this book. Now to live it out.

Farming Principals for Everyone! Those who grow, and those who eat!
The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs by Joel Salatin is a book written by a Christian farmer for Christians. While he uses scripture to implore those who are supposed to be Christ like to care for the earth, the truth of his farming principals hold firm for every human worldwide. And the message is clear for not only those who farm, but those who eat food. So we ALL must listen to the many Joel Salatin’s of the world and make lasting changes that will impact future generations for the better instead of continuing on a destructive path that leaves a dying earth home to sick people. It isn’t honoring, it isn’t funny, and we don’t have a right to rape, pillage and destroy. We have an obligation to be good stewards. No matter who you pray to, or if you abhor prayer, the weight of the obligation is still on your shoulders. John Taylor’s Arator written in 1818 states, “If we suck our mother to death we must die ourselves.” Joel Salatin uses The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs to express how we can nurture our mother so that we may live.

Highest Praise!
Joel Salatin never disappoints and this book is no exception. As a fellow believer, this is the book I have been waiting for him to write. In it, he bridges the chasm between the sustainable ag folks and Christians; as he puts it Creation-worshipers and Creator worshipers. With stewardship as the focus, we never should have had such a divide. This brilliant work, and this gifted man, will help us come together. Couldn't praise it enough!

A fair theological rationale for Caring for God's Creation
Salatin gives a good theological account for the ecological/farming philosophy that governs his life and actions. He writes well enough to make the reader understand that this is an issue affecting them and that it is not enough to simply bow out of the conversation. He is beholden to specific English translations of Scripture to support a few of his views, and his proof-texting is sometimes goofy, but all-in-all is a good book. Christians should be reading this book, it's that important.

Fantastic book, Godly view on raising animals, living life in a "mother earth' way
Absolutely love this book by green, ecology and conservation oriented Joel Salatin. Excellent ideas regarding farming, raising animals on a small scale, and the broader industry. But even more, his Godly worldview gives everything a truly real approach. This is a great view of how God designed things to be! Salatin writes for Mother Earth News and I appreciate that he brings this Biblical truth to that audience.

Not at all what I was expecting! **AWESOME**
As a wanna-be homesteader I wanted to know more about pigs so I got this book. I mean there isn't much that Joel Salatin doesn't know about animal husbandry!Well, I won't write a book review but let's just say this book held me spellbound! Although this was written with Christians in mind don't let that bother you. It isn't preachy and there's much to be found even for those who aren't!If you believe that the earth should be stewarded read the book! You'll be glad you did!

A timely challenge
I appreciated Joel Salatin’s willingness to risk saying what God called him to say. As a pastor in a city plagued by food insecurity, I found his book to be both instructional and motivational. We plan to use his book in a small group study and as the basis for a worship series we’re calling living water.

Thanks, Salatin, for this book.
Salatin has very important things to say, especially to evangelical christians. I agree with his stance that we humans were given dominion over creation in the sense of stewardship - that is, care and protection of nature - and not in the sense that we can abuse nature if we so wish. As to the title, only one chapter is devoted to pigs, although the whole book deals with respecting nature. One thing I found very interesting in the book was his description of how his father restored the eroded and degraded land on the farm he bought.

Amazing insights
I like how Joel blends his personal and revealed view from God into contemporary times - digging real dirt and showing through his book the uniqueness we all share
