The Presto brand is hard to beat!
The Presto pressure canners are top notch and can be passed down generations. I bought this 16 quart canner to do smaller batches without having to pull out the big guns and use the 23 quart canner. It of course has less capacity but for smaller projects it is easier to use. And of course it has the very high quality that Presto products offer. Buy this with full confidence.

Works well, cover hard to get off.
The media could not be loaded. Followed all cleaning and lid oil instructions. The lid was extremely difficult to get off, it was STUCK. got it off 1 time, but had to turn it on its side and struggle with it for about 30 minutes before I finally was able to turn the cover to get it off.I then re-oiled the lid areas and the lid sealing ring, closed it back up a second time and again, the lid would barely turn to get it off. It does take some muscle to get the lid in but I finally got the hang of it while using potholders and both thumbs pushing in opposite turns. I’ve been able to can several jars in f food with no issue.I am actually happy with it now. Be warned, you must add the vinegar in the pot, with the water or the inside of your pot will turn black and it will be hard to see the 3quart water line mark which is VERY lightly edges on the inside where the handles are. I use a weighted rocker( not the official name) it helps so I don’t have to keep turning the fire up and down to keep it at the appropriate PSI Level. The pot holds plenty of jars at a time, just read the manual for specifics and don’t can less than 3 jars at a time.Good quality. Good seal. Parts turn black easily though. But works well.

Hight quality excellent product
I've pressure canned twice now with this Presto 01755 16-Quart canner. First potatoes, then mushrooms. Works really well. I have had no issues to far. Everything looks sturdy and high quality. The 16-quart version is considered small, but I'm glad that I bought it, because it is really large.Comes with detailed instructions. I also recommend downloading the "USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning" for free from the USDA web site.It is not hard to adjust your stove to keep a certain pressure, according to the recipe. If you are like me, you still want to stay near the canner during the process, so this is not a burden. However, if you want an adjustable pressure valve, it can be bought separately. If you are new to canning, it can be a bit nervous to do it the first time, because the canner will make whistling noises from steam, everything is scolding hot and you hear sounds of warping metal. This seems to be normal, and doesn't affect the outcome. I'm happy I bought it.

Good Intro to pressure canning
Experience & Reason bought:With over 30 years of pressure canning experience, I only bought this because my All American workhorse unit is too tall for the space in a secondary home kitchen. After using this as a canner a few times, I felt it was time to provide a review for the pressure canning characteristics (have not used as a cooker or hot water bath).Pros: Light weight and reasonable price; compact size; portable; readily available replacement parts; heats surprisingly quick; good primer instruction booklet; dual pressure gauges are a double safety check; the weighted gauge ("rocker") is comparatively quiet (c/b a con also). A safety pop-up lock activates when under pressure (should be red color); No locks to tighten, just a twist of the inter locking lid. The etched volume lines inside the pot are somewhat difficult to see, but very practical and helpful. Maintenance is simple, minimal, and fast.Cons: Only one weighted gauge of 15# (a 3- piece set is available for greater utility). Clamping the top securely can be a bit trying for small or weak hands because the short, slick "handles" require a kind of wide "lobster claw" pinch to close tightly; plus they do not provide much surface area to grip when lifting or carrying. The lid does not have a handle, so one is tempted to grab the dial gauge (don't). The "V" indicator on the rim is rather cryptic, and it would behoove the safety and function to be a contrasting color to the shiny aluminum.Based on my experience so far, this is a great beginner's pressure cooker canner that won't break the bank; it is easily transportable and designed for "low-volume" production, but with a 7 qt./14 pint capacity, it is plenty for most family canning needs. The low-profile design and reduced height allows it to fit between a stove and overhead microwave oven. So far I am pleased to have this kitchen assistant that is actually getting more frequent use. It is easy on the arms and back muscles when carrying or maneuvering. Unless one prefers to buy a premium canner cooker, I would recommend this product be considered. An inner wire rack (12" diameter) that can lift/lower the jars is also a great accessory to canning operations.Final note: Buyer beware: most pressure canner descriptions prominently advertise the volume capacity of the POT, not the maximum numbers of jars or food it will hold. Do not be mislead by this advertising that can be confusing.
