The discs brought together here, classics of the LP era from the 1960s and 1970s, are all included in the series, but are now re-presented in their original format, without the mediation of the special The Originals remastering process, the ele¬gantly-titled Original-Bit Image-Pro¬cessing. In other words, these LPs offer direct transfers from untreated analogue sources.

Classical LP fans deserve better than this
In terms of sound quality, this set is a mixed bag. Before buying it, I already possessed a 1970s DGG Italian pressing of the Steinberg Holst, and a 1961 British pressing of the Mravinsky Pathetique. The latter is one of my favorite records: I have probably played it at least 100 times in the 25 years or so that I've owned it, and was therefore willing to pay the $102 simply for a fresh copy of this record. However, I felt a little trepidation when pressing order on this one. I've bought two previous Sinfini-released "vinyl revival" DGG pressings (the 2013 Abbado Bruckner #9 and the Mutter Dvorak violin concerto from around the same time), and was underwhelmed by the technical quality of both records. Sadly, I was very disappointed by the Mravinsky Pathetique in this set: the surface noise was worse and the sound more generally indistinct and muddy than my original release copy.Given all the improvements in record cutting and pressing technology that have happened during the "vinyl revival" (e.g. tape players with two heads, so that a computer can forewarn the lathe's cutting head of changes in level), a comparison of two masters and pressings of the same tape, made half a century apart, should not reveal that the older record sounds better. The Steinberg Holst sounds very similar to my earlier Italian pressing, and I haven't heard original pressings of the other four albums. They are acceptable, but no more attention-grabbing than a 1970s DG LP bought used from Amoeba in average condition for their age and mileage, and then cleaned on a Loricraft. The new release Decca classical LP titles - especially the Bernie Grundman ones on double 45RPM albums - are a delight and a revelation to listen to. I've never been disappointed by any of them, even comparing them to near virgin original release copies in my collection. But I've felt consistently let down by the Deutsche Grammophon titles. It's a small and critical audience who are likely to want to buy new LP masterings and pressings of their iconic titles from the '60s and '70s, and they deserve better than this.

All are masterpieces.
Excellent for my collection including the outer case and an exquisite booklet.

Couldn't get a good pressing of the Strauss after two attempts
Couldn't get a good pressing of the Strauss after two attempts. Both flawed a few minutes into side one. In addition one set had the Holst mislabeled on both sides and another disc with the label badly off-center. The new DGG vinyl is hit or miss. I suggest that you don't invest in a vinyl box set unless the product description tells you where the pressings were done.

a bit pricey.
one of my lp records the planets has a huge scratch on side number two and can't be played. also the box that holds my lp records is peeling on the top and bottom. I would give it five stars if it was in perfect condition. The music is just beautiful just the way the artist wanted it. I have listened to the Richard strauss and tschaikowsky. I haven't listen to chopin, liszt, grieg, or holst. I also would not pay more than 75.00 for this box set, good thing I had a gift card for half of the price for it so I only paid 70 dollars for it.

Deutsche Grammophon screws up royally
Item arrived crushed. LP's are from the analogue masters and the download code provides mp3's of the cd versions which are remastered (not the same version as the LP). And Side A of The Planets is mislabeled. Seriously, whoever put this together was drunk as hell. It being crushed in the post was the icing on this craptastic cake.

Suono Meraviglioso
Ottima Scelta dei Titoli, suono fantastico (dettagli orchestrali mai sentiti: vedi la versione molto interessante della "Patetica" eseguita da Mravinsky),Forse i "Carmina Burana" migliori mai incisi. Imperdibile
