Not a great mattress
It's a decently comfortable mattress (you can feel the springs for sure, but that's better than feeling the futon frame). The major problem is that while it's the correct size for my futon frame, it doesn't want to stay in one place in the "Sit" position. It's pretty stiff and really wants to lay flat ("sleep" position). If someone isn't sitting on it, it will stiffen up and slide off the frame entirely (imaging trying to get a board to fit onto your futon frame in the sit position). And it's size makes it very difficult to return, so what I did was buy a 4-foot bungee cord from Home Depot and I'm using that to hold the matress in place while the frame is in the sit position. I will update this review when I try to lay it flat... I have a feeling it might end up being warped by staying in the sitting position for too long but my fingers are crossed.UPDATE: This is a bad mattress. I sit on it daily and, about 4 months after buying it, I can feel the springs really well. Sleeping on it for more than a night will leave your back sore. It doesn't like being in the "sit" position (still using a bungee cord, see above). If you want a good mattress I guess you've gotta buy it at a mattress store. Not a huge surprise, but I was hoping I'd be able to get away with buying this on Amazon. Definitely a bad idea. Buy this if you have to, but don't be expecting anything comfortable and if you can save up for a bit, you're better off buying a real mattress from somewhere else.

Piss poor for sleeping, great for bonfires
Used this mattress as an in-between bed while moving, used only for about five months. Came in a beaten, torn up box upon delivery. Disappointing, but I assumed it was more the delivery service. But no, it was actually an omen of disappointment to come. I let the mattress air out for over a week (slept on the couch during that time) and ended up with it being barely six inches thick. Disappointed, but got over it.I had a hard time sleeping on it the first night. Thought maybe my body wasn't used to the new bed, so i eventually let my body pass out. After two weeks, I began to notice there was very little cushioning when I would just plop down after work and would hurt my back on the frame underneath. Disappointed, again, but I ultimately chalked it up to overuse, since it was used as a bed and a couch for gaming.A month into using it, I had issues sleeping. I woke up in the middle of the night, my neck in flaming pain. After massaging it into semi comfort, I padded my sleep area with pillows and went to sleep. The straw that nearly broke the camel's back, or rather, my back, was around five months after purchase, when I had two hours of sleep one night and a severe stinging pain in my back. I got out the tape measure and the mattress was just under three inches. Under. Meaning, it was over three times smaller the size it's advertised as. I actually attempted to sleep on the floor instead of the futon and I literally felt like I was a new person afterwards. Seven hours of restful sleep, no significant back pain, and I was in a better mood. From sleeping on the floor. Unable to return the mattress, I just burned it. So thanks for five months of agony and disappointment. And thanks for allowing my bonfire party to have a great fire for smores and hot dogs.

Don't fret... worth it
My first concern was assumed comfort, realizing that I'm not sleeping on it. I looked for consistency in the fill because I fully intend to flip and or roll the "mattress" at my will. The consistency is there, equal fill/layers one side to the other. From manufacturer's photos on site they are consistent. It did take a few hours to swell to its normal size, but fine with me at this time. The complaints of smell are unfounded. An hour or two and gone. Whiners before me... you all need some cheese. Now you got smell, Second biggest concern... how was it going to fold correctly AND maintain it's shape in the Futon sitting position. No problem. It holds its shape thus far as was my hope as 8" is thicker that you might imagine. No complaints from me. It took at least a week for me to sift through the possibilities. I made the right choice. Not too shabby..
So this is a temporary solution and so far I will say, I'm impressed. I wouldn't expect a ton out of it but I think you will get more than you might think considering we are still talking about a futon mattress. It is rigid enough to be firm but soft enough to deal with. I am a bigger guy and it is working fine on the frame we got. I think the key to this being a decent option is honestly the frame we chose. The frame is SOLID and this has a great base which makes the quality decent in my opinion.

Does not last
I bought this for my teenage son. It should be known that I did not want to buy a futon but he insisted because he has a very small room. At first, it wasn't bad and he loved it. I took a nap on it one day and was suprised that I didn't hate it more. However, 6 months later it was unbearable to sleep on. It has now been one year and I am using it as a dog bed only (they seem to love it still)

So happy with this purchase!
Absolutely love this product! We recently downsized and moved into a Tiny House and this is perfect for us. We searched a while for a sofa-bed so we'd have the ability to use the bed as a couch also, and opted to try a futon mattress. I read the reviews and figured it was worth a shot.Score! Hubs and I sleep on this at night and sit on it during the day as a couch and it is very comfy. It probably depends on your futon frame, too but this mattress is the way to go. I'm so glad we went with a thicker one, since it seems to get a lot of use. Can't go wrong with the comfort of this baby!

Heavy and doesn't sit up so well
Super heavy. After having to buy the base and the mattress separate that's a lot of MONEY for an item that's so difficult to stay up right. I’m extremely upset how hard it is to open and close to get it set up and laid down. The combination of the futon and the mattress is heavy and doesn't sit up correctly.

It is very nice but it does need more cushion and even though ...
It is very nice but it does need more cushion and even though it has a zipper you can't put a foam mattress inside because it has the cover sewn in thread to make it look like buttons. . So I just put the foam mattress on with a fitted sheet over it. . I really wish the cover wasn't made that way. . Plus I wish it was a little more cushy.
