Yes it DOES improve the sound, but ...
I purchased this product to replace the loudspeakers on a 2016 Vauxall (or Opel if you're on the continent) Astra.First of all, let me say that the initial sound quality is an improvement over the speakers supplied with the car (Soumatrix recommend a 30 hour ‘burn in’ before playing loud tracks). Music is much more clearly defined (only tested mp3 files so far) especially in the treble and midrange, so for example cymbals and snare drums can be heard distinctly. The actual loudspeakers themselves do look better quality than the originals, with a large rear magnet housing which gives the impression that something serious is going on!The not so good news is that while the Soumatrix website provides installation guides online for Volkswagen and Skoda, there aren’t any for Vauxhall/Opel. The more curious amongst you might wonder as to why this should be. Well, I’m not much of a manual expert but I would suggest that having installation instructions that attempt to cover Buick Lacrosse, Buick Regal, Buick Verano, Buick Encore, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Cruze, Vauxhall Insignia & Vauxhall Astra all on two sub-A5 pages (although yes there is model overlap), doesn’t give the potential purchaser much confidence. There are small diagrams showing which tools should be applied where. The manual says the following tools are required: Removal Wedge, Torx Screwdriver, Slot Screwdriver & Clip removal pliers. It also says “please ensure that you follow the mounting instructions correctly to protect your door trims and use the provided “DIY tool kit”” Call me a fussbudget, but the last bit about the provided DIY tool kit, would suggest to me that purpose built kit is provided, however there was no such inclusion in the box I received. The other point worth noting is that the front tweeters in the car should be disconnected. There’s also a massive disclaimer about Soumatrix not being responsible for damage caused improper installation etc., fair enough. In the event I took the speakers and the instructions to a car audio specialist and had the speakers installed professionally (although he didn’t disconnect the tweeters).
