Guess Again!

Our favorite kids book!
There are many books that I’m not too excited to read over and over (and over) to my kids, but every time my kids pull this out, I’m happy to read it as many times as they’d like. It’s genuinely very funny, and its easy for kids to get the “joke”. When reading it, they like to help do the set up before you turn the page only to find out it’s not what you think it is. Don’t even get me started on Dentist Dr. Larry Roberts! Thoroughly enjoyable for kids and grown ups alike!

Funny surprises
Kids anticipate what’s on the next page, because there’s a logical rhyme. However, those answers to the riddle posed would be wrong. A few are a little advanced for first graders (abominable snowman) but kids love it anyway.

Funny for all ages
Who needs a laugh? Well, we all do...which brings me to this bizarre humor concept picture book gem, "Guess Again!" Hilariously told in words by Mac Barnett and in images by Adam Rex, the bang-on rhyme and deceptively-simple illustrations lull the reader time and again into an obvious but incorrect choice. This book revels in the thrill of the unexpected--and, incidentally, has the best example of a comic triple I've ever seen in a picture book.

This book is like one of those movies that gets better each time ...
Definitely not what I expected... We checked this out from the public library, and after reading it a few times, just had to add it to our collection permanently. This book is like one of those movies that gets better each time you read it... The first time I read it, I thought it was pretty goofy. I read it to my 6 year old and after the first few pages where she caught on to what was happening, she was laughing. She couldn't wait to read it when we picked up her 10 year old sister from dance. We read it normal to the 10 year old, and once she picked up what was going on, we were all laughing hysterically! And of course I took it to read to the first graders, and they were all hysterically laughing by the time we were done.Guess Again has turned out to be one of our favorite books, we can read it over and over again and it never ever gets old. Keeps getting better and better. I can't wait to read it to the 2nd graders. Some humor just never gets old!

Granddaughter squealed with delight!
This was on my 6-year-old granddaughter's wish list, and she actually squealed with delight after she opened it! She had checked it out in the library previously, so she knew the book. The book had fewer pages than I thought it would, but my granddaughter loved it!

Silly and unexpected
This was actually the second time I purchased this book because my 3 older kids ripped up the first copy before their younger siblings could enjoy it. This book is silly and unexpected, and makes kids think critically! If my 3 year old twins rip this copy, I'll purchase it a third time if I have to!

Unique & Unexpectedly funny!
(I’m a teacher.) A 3rd grader introduced me to this book, my 5th grade class thought it was ridiculously hilarious, and my 2 year old loves it too! Quite the span of ages!Such a fun and unique book!

An important book
This book is a testament to the inherent intelligence of the early reading-age child. Whereas many books intended for this age are written simply to expose children to written language, "Guess Again!" engages the young reader as a participant in the creative process. A child will return to this book again and again because she realizes that with each turn of the page her expectation of what's almost certainly coming is replaced with something infinitely more hilarious. And this process is tremendously important in this age, when children are beginning to develop the cognitive power of abstract thought. It's refreshing to see a new children's author who seems to understand the important role of literature in the process of a child's cognitive development. "Guess Again!" is not only a wonderfully written and beautifully illustrated book, it's also an important one.
