I've used these for over ten years, to help dissuade mosquitoes and other flying insects from invading my backyard. To date and like all the other repellents I have purchased, I have no clue that these really do anything more than provide a subtle, smokey atmosphere. Still, I light them up.The one thing I can truly say I hate about them is that they take forever to get fully lighted. The cylindrical tip (where you light it) would be better for lighting if the manufacturer turned the tip into a conical shape. That way you could just light the small tip, rather than waiting for the whole cylinder to light.

These are the best solution that I have been able to find so far to fend off mosquitoes and anything else that may try to bite me. If I am sitting in my backyard without anything to fend off the insects, I will get so many bug bites. In order to get these going, it is easiest if you hold them upside down and make sure that you get the whole top, black. You may have to relight it again after a few minutes but once they get going, they continue burning for a few hours.

These sticks are much thicker than I expected. It takes quite a bit to get lit. Once they are they put off a good bit of smoke and scent. Enough that it does a pretty decent job of keeping the mosquitoes away. If you’re sensitive to smoke and/or scents these are NOT for you. For the price I expected a lot more than I got. So I’m using these sparingly and only when I know I’ll be outside for at least 2+ solid hours. Otherwise it’s a waste.

You need a blow torch to light these! I used all my lighter fuel trying to light. Ridiculous !when we finally got it to light it worked fine. I would not recommend and would not buy again.

I like these to keep bugs away. You do need a very good lighter and some cover, if there is wind. You will probably need to light it a few times.My dogs and I dont like the scent, but neither do the bugs and that's the whole idea.I have subscribed, so I do think they are very good and highly recommend.

Because of the thickness, these take a bit more to light than the usual coils. We dipped them in lighter fluid, lit them, let them flame, then blew them out so that they will smolder for hours. The good thing is they are long lasting. We found that filling flower pots with sand, and then using those as stands enabled us to move them around the garden where they were needed most. The smell is intense, so don't over do it but lighting too many. But they do work, and when you are done, just bury the head of the stick into the sand, and light the unused part of it for next time.
