Read this even if you DON'T have autoimmune!
A friend recommended this book as one that could give me an important perspective on being healthy--not just to "Beat Autoimmune." I was intimidated going into it because I don't have autoimmune and some of the terminology was going over my head. What I realized was that the author concisely summarizes her chapters, which brought focus and clarity to all the ideas swimming through my head! The author highlights that what causes pain and partially causes autoimmune is inflammation. I am attempting to take a permanent food vacation from "overt" sugar to start. One thing this book stresses is one.thing.at.a.time. I started a regimen of recommended supplements for various forms of health and I will admit, my exceptionally arthritic knees ache less. I feel less scattered. I'm more prone to prioritize meditating (10 minutes a day using MUSE or the Calm app) because the book gave me proof of how meditation is beneficial both emotionally and physically. My doctor is on board, too; I asked for her advice after giving her a copy of the book. "Beat Autoimmune" is thoughtfully researched and written. Be prepared to read it with a pencil/pen because you're going to want to annotate your copy!

Great Book! Palmer Rocks!
I highly recommend this book! It'll work wonders if you have autoimmune and are looking to truly solve your issues. Palmer is very knowledgeable!

Essential reading for EVERYONE who wants to prevent ANY type of chronic disease
My background is in food science and nutrition, and I wholeheartedly recommend Beat Autoimmune not only to people struggling with a diagnosed autoimmune disorder - but the information presented in this book is relevant to everyone, and will not only reverse or prevent autoimmune disorders, but all kind of chronic disorders, because the author is guiding us step by step to help our body function optimally and heal itself. When we remove stressors and burdens to the immune system, and give the body the nourshishment it needs through nutrition, lifestyle changes and supplements, healing happens, organs/tissues regenerate, conditions reverse. I have read many books in the field of functional medicine, but what sets Palmer's book aside from the rest, is how detailed, prescriptive and actionable it is, no matter where you are in your health journey. You will feel like the author is an empathic friend holding your hand through the process, offering encouragement at every step of the way, hope, and options that will meet you where you are right now. This special way in which is written, makes this book very powerful, because whether you can only handle a few small steps, or a complete lifestyle overhaul, this book will shift your health towards a positive direction, and the more steps you are able to follow, the bigger the positive impact, but you can take them at your own pace. The author is very specific in her recommendations (providing sources and recommended doses), effectively saving you tons of research and hours (and $$) with doctors, just follow her recommendations, and you WILL feel better.

A life changing book
I got this book to try and get rid of autoimmune conditions and after doing the first of the six phases I all but eliminated one of them. This is solid instruction.

Worth Reading Despite...
In this well written book, the author, a life-long MS sufferer claims to have cured herself of autoimmune disease mainly by adopting a Paleo, gluten-free diet. So it follows that if you take her advice it can happen for you, too. A couple of problems, here. First, people do spontaneously recover from MS for unknown reasons, or perhaps a hidden factor such as accidental removal of some environmental factor. Second, all bodies are different, and what works for one person might not work for another. Her diet recommendations can be summarized as; gluten free is an absolute must, and no other grains whatsoever. Eat Paleo (meat). If a plant based diet is part of your lifestyle, apparently you are screwed. She maintains that grass-fed meats are okay. Other sources point out that all meat is inflammatory (a fact she does not acknowledge at all), and that grass-fed really means very little, since all meat is mass produced. The myth of the contented cow in a big field of clover is just that. Her other big point is about healing the gut, and it's hard to argue with that, other than to point to studies that suggest that meat introduces endotoxins into the digestive system. I might add that RA is unknown in the other great apes, and that the longest-lived cultures, such as the Okinawans consume almost no meat or animal products. The six "keys" to beating autoimmunity are: 1) diet 2) heal the gut 3) clear infections 4) minimize toxins 5) address stress 6) balance your hormones. If you are well-read on these subjects, if you have tried gluten-free diets to no avail, there is really nothing particularly new here. Lots of good advice, in a well written, chatty style. The book's strength is that it pulls lots of information together. It also addresses Lyme disease as part of the discussion, although not in great detail. Many of the suggestions regarding testing and supplementation are quite expensive. Extra points for a good index. At less than 11 dollars at the time of this writing, this is a good reference to have, however, if you're hoping it contains some kind of a revolutionary breakthrough, you may be disappointed.

Complete book on treating autoimmune conditions
Love this book! I’m amazed at the vast amount of information that’s covered in this book. I’ve been using it as a reference for a variety of different things like picking supplements and figuring out which tests to take for which condition.Definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to heal their autoimmune conditions.

Helped me even without the tests
Very informative read. I don't agree with previous reviewers that thrashed this book. Yes you might need testing done that is not available on NHS and yes you'll have to change your diet and take supplements. There is no magic pill. I personally haven't had the testing done yet, but experienced relief just by doing the diet. A friend of mine reversed her Graves disease and avoided having her thyroid removed just by changing the diet. She also doesn't take any medicine anymore. I don't think Palmer says stop your medicine right away, obviously that can be dangerous. It's more like working towards to reduce and eventually stop them.Autoimmune diseases are hard. I have LS and would do anything not to have it. Trying different approaches and books are sometimes the only things keeling me going, I have to hope there is help somewhere. GPs just send me home with steroid cream, which is not good enough for me. Hopefully one day medicine will find a way to easily stop these diseases, but til then books and approaches like these give me hope that healing is possible.

Life changing book
OMG...This is book has all the knowledge, practical guidelines, and step-by-steps strategies to change lives. When I say "Lives" I don't just mean individuals! I mean it can improve the whole humanity way of living.I would recommend this book to any individual looking to regain control and balance to their health, genetics, and lives.Strongly recommend this book to anyone who has the slightest sign of Autoimmune, which can be as simple as bloating or low energy levels, to anyone with vicious form of Autoimmunity.Please, read this book, apply it to your life, gift it to people who you love and care about.

Good advice
This book has some good advice on changing your life for health. It give good examples and great resources for healing yourself. A little dry at times but totally containing all the information you need to start looking after yourself. Do it now.
