The latest bro-mance from team Apatow (the guys who brought us Superbad , Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin ), Pineapple Express is the story of Dale Denton (Seth Rogan) and Saul Silver (James Franco), a pothead and his dealer who accidently get caught up in a drug war between two gangs with some corrupt cops, high-school girls and small-time henchmen thrown in for good measure. At its core, Pineapple Express is a stoner comedy--a tale of two semi-slow giggling and loveable idiots in way over their heads--this formula has made for some entertaining comedy over the years, Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke and Dave Chappell's Half Baked being two of the best examples. What sets Pineapple Express apart from these silly classics however, is the consistency of the humor, the perfect chemistry between Rogan and Franco and the giddily ridiculous action sequences (and the fact that even mild intoxication is not required to enjoy the humor). The movie retains the sweetness that is present in most of Apatow's films, making the characters poor choices and ultra-violent actions somehow justifiable, or at least relatable. The site gags, pop-culture references and perfectly timed non-sequiturs only enhance the hilarity. Director David Gordon Green, known mostly for the understated and reflective films George Washington and All the Real Girls , seemed like an odd choice for such a raucous and over-the-top comedy, but it turns out Green's stamp is all over this film (as is his long-time cinematographer, Tim Orr) who together manage to turn Pineapple Express into much more than the sum of its parts. -- Kira Canny Stills from Pineapple Express (click for larger image) Judd Apatow's Pineapple Express follows a pair of druggie losers as they reach the top of the hit-list when one witnesses a mob murder and drags his buddy into a crazy flight from mobsters bent on silencing both of them permanently. Review: One of the many great stoner comedies - The first time I saw Pineapple Express was on the Fox channel. I knew while watching it that I had to own it. First I'll lay out the plot for you. The plot is somewhat simple. It's about two guys, one named Dale Denton (Seth Rogen) and Saul Silver (James Franco). Dale is customer of Saul, who is a drug dealer. It's tough for Dale to accept the fact that they are friends at first, but later on to the end he accepts it and their friendship becomes stronger. Anyway, one day while Dale is going home after buying some marijuana from Saul, he stops his car on the side of a street to smoke his joint. across the street he sees inside a house someone getting shot. scared and shocked, he flees the scene and throws his joint on the street. the man who shot the other guy, Ted Jones, is actually a drug dealer who sold the weed that dale smoked to another guy named red who gave some of it to saul making him the only one besides dale who uses it. After learning about that, saul and dale hide in the woods for a while so the dealers wont know where they are. Red, who gave the drug to saul and is best friends with saul, is forced to help ted jones find out where and who dale and saul. his reason for this is that he is in a drug war with the asains, and that is also why he shot the man who was an Asian drug dealer. and since he doesn't know who dale or saul are, he is suspicious that they could be working for the Asians. There's a lot to explain, and I don't want to give too many spoilers. The movie all in all is astounding and has an amazing cast. Some of the actors you may know for working in other films together aka Seth Rogen and James Franco who both starred in the short-lived but amazing show, Freaks And Geeks. Also Danny McBride and James Franco were in another film together after this one called Your Highness, which is another film that I would recommend if you like this film. the acting is great. For me I think the coolest character is Red who is played by Danny McBride. Despite being shot many times in the film he still survives in the end. Plus I'm a big Fan of Eastbound and Down which stars Danny as the lead character Kenny Powers. Seth Rogen and James Franco's chracters are also favorites of mine and to me are the third best stoner duo the others being Harold and Kumar and Cheech and Chong. I would seriously recommend this film to anybody who want some good laughs and like action, stoners, drugs, and friendship. Also some other facts, ted jones is played by Gary cole who does a great job at being the bad guy. also the name of the drug that was given to dale and saul was called Pineapple Express, which explains the title of the film Review: Super funny - This will always be a classic stoner movie in my eyes. Ranked up with Half Baked and Super Bad

Hilarious must see comedy
The mixed ratings here on Amazon for this film amazes me. PINEAPPLE EXPRESS is amazingly hilarious and has a non stop thrill ride story that never lets up and also never goes over the top. It is about pot and one pot dealer in particular and his main client. Yet this film is in no way a mere stoner film in the vein of Cheech and Chong. It is filled with intelligent humor and a stage is set for all the performers to shine. James Franco leads the pack and has totally changed his career with his full out comic, real portrayal of the drug dealer. He is forever stoned and forever hilarious. Seth Rogen shines more than ever as the client who sees a murder and turns to his dealer for help. The comic duo these two provide is primed for the modern times. They both rule and play off each other flawlessly. You will never tire of the interactions between them. As I said, this film is intelligent and Rosie Perez and Gary Cole are another duo in this film that shine. Rosie Perez has never been funnier. I don't want to give away too much about this film except to say it is no mere stoner film. If you love SUPER BAD and any of the actors involved you will love this film. This is one of the best comedies in years. I had to add it to my film collection and in blu ray the addition is even better. It is wonderful to see the expertise and quality that is given to a comedy film. The video and audio transfers are of the highest quality. This film also comes with hours of bonus material that will keep the laugh ride going on for a long time. Highly recommend.

Hilarious, action-packed, and surprisingly heartfelt
Pineapple Express is a wild ride that blends stoner comedy with action in a way that's both unexpected and thoroughly entertaining. Seth Rogen stars as Dale Denton, a process server who witnesses a murder and finds himself on the run with his laid-back drug dealer, Saul Silver, played by James Franco. The duo's chemistry is palpable, and Franco's performance adds a unique charm to the film. The movie's strength lies in its ability to balance absurd humor with genuine moments of friendship and loyalty. The action sequences are surprisingly well-executed, adding an extra layer of excitement to the comedic chaos. While the film doesn't shy away from its stoner comedy roots, it also offers a deeper exploration of the bond between the main characters, making it more than just a typical comedy. If you're in the mood for a film that's both hilarious and action-packed, Pineapple Express is definitely worth a watch.

Funniest dialogue in years
I give this movie 5 stars not because it's a perfect film-- it drags a little towards the end, and the balance of comedy and action goes off-kilter-- but because it was viscerally the most enjoyable time I've had at the movies in more than a decade. I can't help but smile every time I think about it. The chemistry between Rogen, Franco, and McBride is just plain FUN to watch. I can't think of a movie where the actors seemed to be having a good time making a film, while managing to be very entertaining instead of devolving into inside jokes and abstraction. There are so many quotable, hilarious lines, delivered with perfect cadence by all three principals. It's a different, halting-awkward, looser sort of comic timing than, say, Ben Stiller's jam-packed Tropic Thunder script. I smiled at the latter, I was crying from laughter several times during the former. This is a Judd Apatow brand movie, to be sure, but David Gordon Green infuses his own sensibility into it by creating three-dimensional (albeit wonderfully absurd) characters out of what could have easily been cartoons, and making the crux of the story the development of friendship. There's beautiful cinematography by Tim Orr in outdoor scenes, as well as impressive action sequences, working that 2.4:1 aspect ratio for all its worth. There are also small details that reward multiple viewings (Saul's apartment is one great visual gag unto itself), and none of the people I know managed to notice or make out all the dialogue on first go-around. Ostensibly a gross-out guy comedy, PE comes with a distinct chick flick undercurrent that's played for laughs and also makes it a great movie night for coed groups of friends.

Like If a Bag of Doritos and an Explosion Had a Baby
This movie is what happens when a stoner comedy, an action movie, and pure chaos get tossed in a blender—and I loved every ridiculous minute of it. Pineapple Express is dumb in the smartest way possible. James Franco and Seth Rogen have the kind of chemistry that makes you wonder if they actually did survive a drug-fueled shootout in real life. It’s got car chases, friendship goals, and more weed references than a dispensary. 10/10 would recommend—especially with snacks. Lots of snacks.
