Picked Up Right Where We Left Off
After such an abrupt ending of the first book, I am glad the second book picked up right where we left off. There was no shortage of action as Amy took us around Oz fighting one battle after another. I think my favorite part about the book was how many new and exciting places we got to visit in Oz. From monkeys to lost things to rainbows, each new kingdom was vivid and magical, and I really felt like I was there visiting them with Amy. Amy remains a unique character with a strong voice who stands out from others like her. The only drawback for me was at times certain aspects seemed a little rushed and disjointed. I could have missed something, but for me a once over to catch these small things would have done the book a world of good. [ For example, toward the beginning of the book there is a place where there should be a space in between girl and from. Nothing major but then later in the book it states that Pete is gagged, and a few pages later he is the one who shouts a warning to Amy. I read it a few times, and I don't know if I am missing something or if he just got around his gag without us knowing about it. Finally, on a personal preference note, I wasn't a fan of Nox and Amy's kiss. The second kiss description was better, but the first felt so awkward it made me wonder why they were doing it at all. I get the whole wanting to be real, not everyone is an expert kisser thing; however, when I read books I want to feel a little flutter in my chest when the romance is reunited. So for me, a different angle on that description would have been appreciated. (hide spoiler)] The ending was once again a major dramatic cliffhanger. I am very interested to read the final book. I feel like Amy has a lot of very interesting places to go yet, and I can't wait to read about them.

Enjoyable sequel to Dorothy Must Die
The Wicked Will Rise is the second novel in Danielle Paige’s reimagining of L Frank Baum’s Oz in which Dorothy has turned evil. Some of you who read my review of the first novel, Dorothy Must Die, may remember that I had a few issues with it, notably the pacing and the audiobook production. I am happy to say I found no such issues with the sequel. I found the pacing much more lively and consistent and it kept me listening along. I would strongly suggest that you read the e-novella The Wizard Returns beforehand - it’s not strictly necessary, but it will fill in a few blanks. The protagonist, Amy Gumm, continues to be kickass and engaging and I loved hearing the continuation of her story. I found some of the situations and emotional problems she has to deal with very well done. The narrator, Devan Sorvani, once again did an excellent job of bringing her to life and the production was much better this time in that there were no annoying long pauses between paragraphs. What I particularly enjoyed about this book was that it took the story in a completely different direction - and a new and interesting direction - than what I had been expecting. It’s always excellent when an author can surprise you. I really look forward to book three now.I picked up The Wicked Will Rise in both Kindle and Audible format and gave it five stars out of five.

The Wicked Will Rise - even better than the first book
I liked The Wicked Will Rise even better than the first. Like Dorothy Must Die, I read this originally as a loan from a digital library. By the time I finished, however, I could no longer wait for the digital loan to come through (even though I was next in line for Yellow Brick War). I immediately purchased the last 2 books in the series. And like Dorothy Must Die, I purchased this book so that I would have it, even though I already read it. Love these characters. Love the originality of this world. Even though it's almost brutal at times, it is also fantasy at its best. I love the budding romance with Nox. And the awkwardness and hesitancy of Amy and Nox together is a great representation of what young love is really like. This book completely hooked me on the series.

I loved it
The Wicked Will Rise is the 2nd installment in the Dorothy Must Die Series. In order to save Oz Amy was tasked with collecting the items given to Dorothy’s friends from the Wizard which have now corrupted them. Which means she needs to collect an item from each of Dorothy’s henchmen before Dorothy and Glinda find her. No small task when everyone is out to catch you and the only one you can trust is Princess Ozma. Now if only Princess Ozma would come out of her haze to rise up against Dorothy and claim her throne as true Queen of Oz.Amy has collected the Tin Man’s heart as well as the lion’s courage so getting the brains from the scarecrow shouldn’t be too hard. Stuck with Princess Ozma who’s not always herself but that of Pete the emerald eyed boy that was the first person she encounter upon arriving in Oz so long ago. While they each share the same body transforming from one the other it’s Pete that’s loyalty will be tested. As the trio travels through Oz attempting to stay one step ahead they encounter new friends, reconnect with old ones and find what they lost. Will it be enough to defeat Dorothy and Glinda or will Amy end of in the place of the lion?I like Amy a lot she’s an interesting character who while not from Oz takes it all in stride well after all she’s the only one who can save Oz. I’m not sure how I feel about Pete he’s kind of not my favorite guy but he has issues after all he shares his body with Princess Ozma. I still like Nox a lot he’s clearly one of my favorite bad boys from Amy and I see a lot of potential for the future after maybe they fix things. I’m also starting to wonder if maybe Dorothy may not be the bad guy we thought but a pawn for Glinda.I’ve been procrastinating on reading The Wicked Will Rise because I was waiting for the final installment to come out so I could read them together. However my SS team needed the 2nd in a series so I knew this was the perfect time to revisit the land of Oz. I love the concept that Dorothy isn’t the good guy in this story but the bad guy and boy is she good at being bad. I really love the unique spin on one of my favorite books as a kid. The author has created an action packed adventure across the land of Oz with exciting characters and villains in hot pursuit. The author has a beautiful writing style it just flows from start to finish creating a story that is hard to put down. I enjoyed every page of The Wicked Will and can’t wait to see how it’s all going to play out in the final installment. I know an epic battle is brewing and I’m anxiously waiting to read it. I honestly loved every minute of the book and it was impossible to put down only took a morning to finish. I highly recommend if you’re a fan of the wizard of Oz you check out this modern twists on a classic.

Good but not as good as the first
Not as good as the first one and not as twisted (shame) but still brilliant, with more characters and more adventures. The only downside is that I have to wait until April next year before I can read the third book, but I have the prequels to keep me occupied until then.
