So far this works better than expected.
I am using it to do live streaming from a Canon Vixia video camera. I am pleasantly surprised that the video quality appears pretty good both for streaming and recording. I was not expecting this to plug and play so easily on OBS on a Linux system but it just worked, and the video quality is quite good so far. It's appreciated that it can pull audio directly from the camera or use audio input into the laptop.

Works with DirecTV but audio sync drifts
I bought the Mirabox that does HD 1080P for $39.99, to capture and store recordings from my DirecTV DVR. I'm using OBS software on Windows 10. The video quality is actually really good once you set the encoder and quality in OBS Output settings. I'm using the NVENC (Nvidia) hardware encoder in my laptop at High Quality Medium File Size setting. The audio was a pain to figure out, though. I have to mute system sounds and desktop audio has to be active or no sound is recorded. I had to set the Sync Offset of the Desktop Audio to -200ms in the Advanced Audio Properties of OBS to get audio to sync with video. I thought everything was perfect, but the audio sync drifts after about an hour and a half. I'm recording 2 to 5 hour shows, so this is a problem.Based on my googling results, this audio sync problem may be inherent to the capture card and not something that can be fixed in OBS. So I just bought a DIGITNOW 4K capture card for $129 thinking that might be better. All I get from that card is a black screen with white letters that say "Not Support", so I guess that card doesn't support DirecTV at all. Maybe it's HDCP. So I'm returning that and keeping the Mirabox unless and until I can find something better. I'll just have to break the recordings into 1 hour segments I guess. With this setup, running an HDMI cable to the MIrabox and using the passthrough back to my TV, the picture cuts out when the computer is powered off.. It works if the computer is in sleep mode though. The DIGITNOW card has a 5v usb power input, so it would have solved this issue, but that card didn't work for me.There's one other issue with the Mirabox audio. It sounded weak until I changed those output settings and something happened, suddenly the audio sounded loud and full with plenty of bass. This is on my laptop. When I tried the Mirabox with my desktop PC, I got the same weak audio that I got with the laptop at first, but changing the settings has not made it better yet. I'm still trying to figure that out.Overall I give this Mirabox HD 5 stars for amazing video quality at a low price, but more like 2 or 3 stars for the finicky audio part.

Believe the 1 star reviews
The reviews indicating audio problems are real. The video comes through perfectly. The audio on the other hand comes through only as a loud machine gun sounding static noise. Without both audio and video the unit is worthless. No wonder the unit is so cheap. No support available either. This is being returned. Maybe it's just a defective unit but judging from my experience and the others reviews the quality control is completely non existent. Maybe you get lucky with a unit that actually works but I wouldn't count on it.

Reliably unreliable
I can count on this thing to glitch out in various ways depending on which computer I'm using it with. With my PC laptop, 20 pixels on the bottom of the frame are totally borked. On my iMac (2020), it regularly glitches out; randomly reverses the picture, crazy stuff.

As advertised and more
I bought this capture dongle expecting it wouldn't have a loopout. It did! I plugged it into my Macbook Pro external dock (the Elgato CamLink lasts 5 minutes on this dock) and left it encoding in OBS over night. Video and audio is perfect and the input lag is minimal as I could play Horizon Chase Turbo without any issues through OBS. Sound works.I also connected it to a GoPro Hero4 (which is what it will be primarily used for) and it captures 1080p60fps without issue.

Doesn’t work as advertised
Does not perform like it says in the advertising. It’ll do 720p @60 fps just fine, but will not do 1080 @60 fps. It does 1080 at more or so 27-30 fps. Just be warned that it’s not true to the claims.
