If you're only going to buy one reference source...
If you are working on a model of the Dornier Do335 Pfeil, this may be your best value for a single reference source, not only for the real plane's history, but model builds as well. Includes great "walkaround" photos of the only surviving example at the Udvar Hazy Center in Washington, well-done color profiles, and scale drawings.I referred to this book constantly for weeks as I worked on a radio control Pfeil for numerous details as well as camouflage and markings. It's still sitting two feet from me as I type, even though the model is completed, just in case I want to check something. The printing quality and photo reproduction is excellent. My only criticism is that I feel the organization and order of the material is not well thought out. I found myself constantly flipping back and forth through many pages to cross check images or information I felt should have been together. For example, the plastic scale model information and builds chapter follows the color profiles, but precedes the chapter detailing the differences between each of the prototypes, which is then followed by period details photos mixed with present-day walkaround photos. As I said, if you are going to buy just one reference book on the Do335, this is the one to get.

Highly recommended!
Just got this book the other day and what a brilliant book! I haven’t really been disappointed by any books from the publisher. The first half of the book is dedicated to the history and development of the plane and has some great details about some paper projects that were being designed for this plane. There is a huge section dedicated to all the models that have been made of this plane and several great builds in all major scales. The last section is a walk around of the plane that is at the national air and space museum. Can’t recommend the book enough! Buy it! You won’t be disappointed!

Wow!
This book is the absolute best modeling book I have ever seen. The information, beautiful pictures, & a breakdown of seemingly every single extant available kit is simply fantastic.

More esoteric subject than usual for this series
Hitherto, the aircraft types covered in this series have been major production types and have even been spread over multiple volumes. It seems a bit odd than an aircraft with only a few dozen aircraft total produced and which never entered service would merit this kind of coverage. However, this is a Lufwaffe aircraft of unusual configuration which means it is guaranteed to be popular with model kit makers and hence warrants lavish coverage. The popularity of the most obscure German aircraft sketch of this period is a foregone conclusion. The book is identical in format and trade dress with the others in this series. It is an 8-1/4" x 11-3/4", square bound card cover of 144 pages. It also has much newly commissioned artwork, also typical of the series as a whole. The book begins with a 15 page preface which gives the history of the type from the beginnings to postwar evaluation by former enemies. The book proper begins with the 11 page chapter entitled "Evolution - Do 335 Prototypes" which covers the details of each individual prototype (markings, camouflage, differences, etc). It is followed by three similar chapters devoted to the A series (5 pages), B series (2 pages), and related projects (9 pages). The fifth chapter covers the camouflage and markings of the production series in 12 pages, 6 of which are devoted to color profiles. Chapter 6 reviews the various kits available in the popular scales in 7 pages. Chapter 7 takes us through the construction of a kit in the three most popular scales (1/72nd, 1/48th, 1/32nd). Even if one is not a modeller one will find these 19 pages of interest. The eighth chapter, entitled "Building a Collection", is a series of perspective drawings detailing the differences between the various types and subtypes in 16 pages and will be of interest to the modeller and general enthusiast alike. The last and longest chapter (38 pages) is devoted to the details of the aircraft in modern photos and contemporary drawings. The color photos of the only surviving example figure prominently. The book is rounded out by appendices listing kits, accessories, decals, and books devoted to the type. Finally, there is an 6 page equivalent bound foldout with conventional line drawings. There are a few glitches here and there. The prototype serials diverge from other sources after the V12 or so. Also, the extended span wings are invariably described as low aspect ratio when of course they would be high aspect ratio. On the whole, highly recommend. It can't really replace the excellent Classic or Monogram titles devoted to the type but has strengths that those titles don't have so it should be a welcome supplement to those titles.
