Q: I have used lineco gummed japanese hinging paper for years, specifically the type that is called hayaku. is this same reversible product?

I haven't yet tried it. But where do you find the Japanese hinging paper? I did ask the framer abut this particular one that you asked about. He said he uses it, but said it requires water to release, so he tries to avoid using it as water would damage most any art. Hopefully it won't take MUCH moisture!

Hello, it's only on one side. If you're looking for something that's adhesive on both sides perhaps to attach your mat and backing together, then you can use double side tape. We sell them on our direct website under 'matting supplies' (on the left side category).

Use reg gummed paper tape. The Lineco adhesive is far too weak.

Q: How do you move or remove the tape without damaging the artwork once it is set?

The reason I get this tape is that it is of course archival, but also that it's permanent. The typical archival artists tape that comes in a loses strength over time, and works that are on mounting board for example can loosen in a window mat. The Lineco tape avoids this. Now, in answer to your question, the best way to remove a wrk that has been adhered to something is to cut it away with an X-Acto type of blade. Yes, this means some tape remains on the artwork, but at least it'll remain undamaged and the tape is archival.
