Useful in the right device
The plugable usb 2.0 hub designed to accommodate 2 usb devices where only one was previously accessible, is a great product. Unfortunately it did not suit my purpose. I bought the item for use in my car usb port. Upon plugging two devices into the hub, my car stereo immediately informed me that i had exceeded the maximum power allowed for the usb port. I would assume that would be because the car designed the usb port to use one device at a time. No fault of the hub. Ideal use would be for a laptop or computer i would think.

A simple solution to squeeze one more device onto your computer
I've plugged both my keyboard and mouse into this in order to free up a USB slot, and I have not noticed any drop in responsiveness.UPDATE 2015.12.26This USB splitter is still working great, although on extremely *rare* occasions (I can probably count on one hand how many times) the computer didn't respond to any keyboard input at bootup, even though the lights on the keyboard were on. The simple solution was to unplug and replug the keyboard or the splitter, and then everything worked all right. I don't know if the splitter was at fault, or if it's because my old Logitech mouse might be going bad, or because my Microsoft keyboard doesn't like the fact that I'm using a competitor's mouse. In any case, I'm still quite satisfied with this USB splitter. On the product page there is literature and there are comments stating that you shouldn't connect multiple data storage devices (that aren't self-powered) to this USB splitter for various reasons. I have not tried to use it for data transfer, and personally I would recommend against even trying since USB splitters/hubs, which don't have their own external power supplies, tend to drop power to one storage device while transferring data to/from another storage device. This kind of behavior has the potential to damage storage devices, or at the very least annoyingly disconnect and reconnect them repeatedly (complete with operating system notifications).

Perfect for my needs
Great little HUB that worked first time I plugged it in. Full data speed was achieved, and it never backed down (Flash-to-flash transfer). Mounted and unmounted items quickly in Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.For Linux users (Specifically Linux Mint 10 (Julia) 64-bit), it doesn't alert you that it's mounted and working, but it does mount and work just fine. I'm fairly sure the reaction would be the same in most other Linux distros. For hackers and modders, the PCB is really small but well built, and can be made less than one-third of an inch thick by removing the ports, and soldering directly to the voltage and data tabs. I suspect a multi-layered PCB is being used, so trim the board at your own risk. One note I'll make is that the cord is short. Only about eleven and a quarter inches. Fine for a laptop, but might pose issues with some desktop applications. Not a big enough problem to dock a star, plus it doesn't effect me anyways. Just thought I'd let you know.
