I really like this hat. I took it with me on an august trip across continental europe. It helped me keep the sun off my head in a variety of environments and held up really well.I wore it:- On a boat tour, and with the strap it didn't fly away, and when there were splashes of water my head didn't get wet- on a cycle trip, with the strap it didn't fly away and it didn't slide down my head when i was sweating a lot- during everyday normal situations.- in the rain, where it kept my head dry so i didn't have to wear my rain hood - this gave me better visibilityAlso it fit in my cargo shorts pocket when I didn't want to wear it.

Great for out walking on a poor day

I don't normally bother writing reviews but thought I would for this hat to "defend" it!A lot of people have commented that the fabric on the top is thin and flimsy - well it is thinner than the rest of the hat but appears to be the - hopefully proper - same Sun Protection 50+ fabric as the rest. That's all it needs for the top! The lighter and more "breathable" the better!It's the RIM that needs to be stiff and keep its shape and it does!Best of all - and quite unusually - the top part of this hat covers over the mesh part (but leaving open at the bottom) to ensure the sun doesn't shine through the mesh to largely defeat the purpose of the sun protection. A lot of people have enough hair to partly (but not fully) protect the sides of their heads but I don't as I'm almost bald! I'm also a cancer patient on chemotherapy and MUST have full protection. Therefore I really need a well designed hat like this.It also claims to be waterproof - not just shower proof, and I expect it is though haven't tried it in the rain yet.I also like the fact it has a really nice wide brim, but not so wide it looks silly. As a sun hat that gives you a little more shade and as a rain hat obviously a little more shelter.It also very easily packs flat without losing its shape at all. It can probably be rolled or folded too but I wouldn't want to try that and as it easily flattens from the crown that's all it needs.When buying this hat I actually bought several to try - some about 1/2 the price - but this is the one I'm keeping and going to rely on and use all summer.

Nice hat, well made, but the sizing chart is a bit off so I ordered one that is slightly too big.

Purchased for adult son with large head for backpacking. Fitted perfectly, lightweight, all around brim to protect from sun or rain. Netted airy layer under upper flap. Folds flat. Nice pale slate grey colour with chin/ neck strap if needed. It went into son’s backpack so he must have approved. I hope you found this review helpful.

The hat did provide good sun protection during the recent record breaking temperatures in Italy, and the strap is a bonus during windy conditions.The material is fairly thick, making it uncomfortably hot to wear, and the ventilation mesh is awkward to use due to being covered in tightly fitting fabric.The hat looks quite good and it's easy to flatten out the skip.Lastly, the hat is fairly bulky to put in a pocket for occasional use.

Lightweight, adjustable and covers my ears well. Just what I needed .
