Navigating Metabolism

I love this book
I’ll keep review short. This is the best book on the topic, especially as a companion to a nutritional biochemistry course. I refer to it more than any other books on the topic of biochemistry and metabolism

Inking problem with the current edition.
Although I have not had much time to read the book yet, I am impressed with its contents so far and will update as I go along. However, I had to leave a review pointing out that the print quality of the figures is quite bad. They are well designed figures, but when the books were printed, it seems anywhere that black and yellow ink mixed there was a bleeding of the black ink across the yellow. This messes up a lot of the text, some of which becomes unreadable, as well as arrows and borders in many of the figures. It doesn't prevent comprehension of the content but it is certainly distracting.EDIT Jul 9 2019: I am raising by a star to 4 stars simply because I like the content, having gotten up to the chapter on amino acids at this point. The inking problem is annoying and consistent, but overall this is really well written for a concise refresher of biochemistry and metabolism. I've only caught a handful of typos, and it's nothing glaring. I hope a second edition is made with better print quality and maybe a 10% increase in length to address areas where the text feels almost too concise, like a quick summary report instead of something meant to impart deeper level knowledge. This tends to happen in this book whenever it starts to stray more into the biology of various topics like metabolites in cell signaling. However, I thought it did a surprisingly good job on redox biology controlled by NADPH, something that is very easy to get wrong. Even still, that section could use a little more expansion.

Not for everyone
It is not an easy book, some prior knowledge is needed. I could say that in didactics its score is zero. The knowledge is there, the graphics are very nice, but that's not enough. The only reason that leads me to give the book 4 stars is for a single fact, it clarified a concept in cancer metabolism that is essential to treat patients; without that concept, my score for the book would have been a single star.Abstraction isn't enough to understand complex issues, a little bit of good help from the author of the book, it wouldn't be bad.

Absolutely terrific resource for all levels of sophistication.
Outstanding reference and resource. Probably the best book of its type that I have found to explain metabolism in a very understandable, yet not at all dummied-down, manner. Suitable for students as well as more senior researchers wanting to “bone up” on metabolism concepts. Very clearly written and beautifully illustrated. Highly recommended.

need a basic knowledge of biochem
awesome book of knowledge but hard going for a biohacker who has limited background in biochemistry

Highly recommended for students and others seeking a deeper understanding of
A timely book given the recent resurgence in interest in metabolism in cancer biology, immunology and other areas. Remarkably readable for an often complex subject. Highly recommended for students and others seeking a deeper understanding of metabolism
