My So-Called Life: The Complete Series

Still Having a Time
My So-Called Life is not only one of the most poignant dramas to be put on the air (teen or otherwise), but it stands up to time. Twenty-one years old, and this show is still relevant, and that's because it's not glamorous, it's not flashy. It covers a realistic view of the trials and tribulations of being a teenager, covering everything from social anxiety, sex, self-esteem and even to the embarrassment that is sometimes yourself. As an adult, I love this show just as much as ever, and I recently showed this series to my 64-year old mom, and she fell in love, too. The show is filled with amazingly written dialogue, believable situations, and is full of amazing quotes and one-liners. I was hesitant to buy the expanded DVD set+book, mostly because of the price, but I'm glad I finally broke down. The book has some great insightful essays, including plot details from writer/creator Winnie Holzman, explaining what would have happened in the show, if it had continued for a second season. The DVD set includes an extra DVD that is entirely comprised of behind-the-scenes goodies, and interviews with cast and crew. If you are truly into the MSCL universe, the expanded version is definitely worth the expense. I'd also like to note that the DVD packaging is the hard-cardboard case type that folds out, which I prefer over the newer "slim pack" DVD packaging for TV series. Another bonus in the DVD packaging is made to look like a school notebook, complete with doodles and sketches. After all these years, this remains one of my favorite shows, and I'm still having a time.

Angela Loves Jordan!!
The discs all played beautifully, which I'm really grateful for. This is my most favorite show on the planet! Long live Angela and Jordan...what a controversial couple! I love Rickie's infatuation with Rayanne and I even love Patty and Graham's involvement. When I was 15 like Angela, her parents would've driven me nuts but now that I'm 43 their involvement makes more sense. This show marks the epitome of early to mid-90s grunge alternative style...I'm doing a study on this movement and really appreciate the points that this show make. I will forever be Angela Chase's TV friend!

For fans of YA and Coming of Age ... and Claire Danes & Jared Leto
Rarely watched it when it was on TV -- had a hard time watching Claire Danes moping around in her flannel shirt, and her sidekick was an annoyance. But then I got over it ... and wanted to watch it ... and I couldn't find it anywhere unless I was willing to pay big bucks for bootlegs DVD's, or the original issue DVD's, or VHS, which I was not. But then came this awesome re-issue and I LOVE IT! I've watched it several times since my purchase and will watch it again several more times, I am sure. This is one of the best coming of age shows you'll ever see. Great writing, great acting. And of interest also, as an adult, is the struggles the parents go through as well. ALL of the characters are well-developed and portrayed with sensitivity and believability. You can see Jared Leto and Claire Danes's beginnings ... even then they were terrific. If you like them, let that hook you in.

The best highschool tv show ever? Yes!
I remember when My So-Called Life first aired on TV. I couldn't believe my luck: A show about truly awkward teens starting out their freshman year, dealing with changing social circles, hormones, sexuality, self-consciousness, all the highs and lows that come with the territory. I was an awkward, undersized freshman when this show originally aired and I loved throwing away reality once a week, imagining myself with these characters, wondering what it would be like to have these people as my friends. When a young person is coming to terms with who they are becoming, stumbling around in the transition from childhood to adulthood, it can be hell on earth then they realize that they aren't who they thought they would be, they aren't who their parents expected them to be, and they aren't who society says they should be.There are rules all around us, spoken and unspoken, and we are supposed to follow them or face the consequences. Consequences from those around us - parents, teachers, fellow students, friends and enemies - and even from ourselves. It was shows like MSCL that told us it's okay to be who you are and though the world may come at you on all sides, you'll get through it. You'll be okay.No wonder it was cancelled. It's sad to admit that I actually cried when I discovered the news that my favourite show wouldn't be returning next season. I had expected to follow these characters all the way through highschool, sharing those years together. I felt robbed of the opportunity, disillusioned and sad.Of course, I was a dramatic teen back then and I eventually got over it. When the show was picked up for re-runs, I had my VCR tuned and ready. When it first came out on DVD, I waited for the price to go down. (Which it never did.) And so, finally, it has returned to DVD and it's better than ever. The best thing about having My So-Called Life in such a nice package as this is sharing it with those who didn't watch it the first time around, and to show a new generation what it was like 'back then'. It really was a different world sometimes and this is a great timecapsule to have, to remember, and to share.

Updated Arrived Damaged but good customer service
UPDATE: I've increased my star review based on the companies response to get this sorted ASAP. Great customer service, sending a replacement and have apologised for the inconvenience. So I've tried to watch these, the disks are scratched and greese on them, they jump or don't play at all. The box is covered in food and one of the disks is too 🤢I'm returning the item.

**i love my so called life""
from the early nineties, this series came out when i was at primary school and i watched it in about year eight. it's very cool, all about grunge, nice hair, angst, music. it made me remember school kind of better than i remembered before watching it...i love claire danes, who went on to be in romeo and Juliet and jared leto, who was in a really famous band. i always thought they'd get married in real life.i'm probably going to watch it again soon to get cosy, warm, loved upness you only get from shows like this.i know there was only one series and ms danes got some blame for it, but i quite like the cliffhanger. however it would be ultra amazing if they brought out another series now.

Good fast service....Thanks
Really pleased with this box set and it was in very good condition. I'd admit I got slightly excited as this was my life growing up. Having a teenage daughter now I thought I would share my love of this program. Would definitely use from the seller again.

Still stands the test of time
I waited for this series on Dvd for a long time. Its a such a nostalgia hit to see these episodes again! If first saw this show when I was 17 I thought this show could have been all about me.lol. Axed before the first series completed, My So Called Life predates Dawson's creek and was smarter and more subtle, all the more watchable now as an adult for it's lack of pop culture references and self references of the later. The adult characters are also given as much weight as the teenage protagonists which make it interesting to watch over so many years later. Less sympathetic maybe than Freeks and Geeks (which is also excellent), it is awkward, truthful and unsentimental. My So Called Life remains timeless, and yet very much of its time. Well worth watching again.

A million stars!
My So Called Life was binned after the 1 and only series but it now has cult status.... and rightly so. I've introduced some friends to it who love it equally as much as I do. If you haven't watched it yet then do. If you watched it as a teenager in the 90's then it's interesting to see it from the parents POV as well. Cannot recommend enough! Plus Jared Leto playing Jordan Catalano (the most popular boy in school...eeek!) you'll fall a little bit in love with him as well.
