Woodstock D2904 Black Buffing Compound, 1lb.

This review is for the black emery bar. When I opened this emery bar to use it the first time I thought it was rather greasy - there was grease on the outside that you could easily lift off the bar with your finger and smear on the table. I thought that would be a problem but after using it a few times I found that I really liked the way the bar worked and that it held the emery on the wheel a lot better (as in a lot longer). I've found that it works better than other bars I've used. The wheel needs cleaning (raking) more often than the others but that is A-OK with me since it does a better, more consistent job of cutting. I use this on smoking pipe stems and bowls and it works great.

Can't go wrong with this stuff. Compared to other buffing compounds, this is just a bit softer which is both good and bad. Some bars of compound are harder but this means they break easier and chunks chip off if you accidentally drop it. This is slightly softer so it doesn't break/chip if you drop it. Also, it loads the wheel quickly but just a little too much pressure or speed while loading the wheel and there's a fine mist of excess compound dirtying up anything behind your wheel. Cuts just the same and lasts just as long. Once I got used to the consistency, I've liked it better than the harder compound.

Very poor performance when polishing aluminum with an airway buff. This product is greasy and will melt & leave streaks on the work almost instantly. Avoid.

Great buffing compound for polishing edges of cutting tools! Just aggressive enough to buff quickly but not remove much material, best for polishing not sharpening an edge. I would estimate this compounds grit at 1500-2000 grit. I use this compound with belt grinder on a leather strop belt to sharpen tools. I follow this compound with green compound then CBN emulsion for best results.

Cuts (polishes) well but brick itself is very difficult to cut into small, hand-held portions. Used draw saw and hacksaw. Took a lot of force. Will go back to smaller size by a different brand. You get a lot of compound but it is not user-friendly and not to my liking.

Used to polish stainless steel sheet metal to a fine luster with out spending a lot of time

The product itself is great. It took forever to receive it So much for paying for prime

These large bricks of compound are eons ahead of the few small hard sticks of compound that I can find at either the small hardware stores or the big box stores. They are a bit softer and stick to the buffing wheels nicely giving me a much more even finish on whatever I happen to be polishing.

C'est un bon produit

This is awesome stuff. I use it for sharpening all my hunting and carving knifes, works much faster than green compound(chromium oxide) and has very similar results. The only con i have is that it is not currently in stock on amazon and if you want it you have to buy from other sellers who have some ridiculous prices. I payed 2.70$ for this and but that was when it was in stock, I would have easily payed up to 30$ since one of these will last a lifetime if you are using it on a leather strop.

The Item was received in in 3 pieces , obviously broken

I have not tried it yet but it is a huge brick. I bought the black and it is actually black while the picture for the black looks greyish. I have high hopes in its function

gets a bit dirty using black...but it cuts real well
