Quantative Value of Numbers
Math Fables by Greg Tang is a great book to help kids understand the quantative value of numbers as opposed to just the sequential place of numbers (i.e. 1,2,3,. . .). My 2 grandsons look at numbers differently now. This book took some of the mystery away - they get it. They understand that 5 is 5-ones, or can be 2 groupings of numbers such as 1 and 4, 2 and 3. . .1+4, 2+3. Since we use math everyday in numerous ways, it's good to keep young minds open to explore numbers. Knowledge of how numbers work help to keep learning blocks at bay.

Greg Tang teaches real math
Greg Tang's books are splendid for children of many ages. As a former math professor, math tutor and grandmother, I have used Tang's books with 5, 6, 7, and 10-year olds. They are teaching real mathematics, not just counting. In "Math Fables" a young child understands a number as an amount but also as made up of other numbers. For example, the number 4 is seen as composed of 3 and 1 or 2 and 2. This is the beginning of good mathematics understanding.Brita ImmergutProfessor Emerita, LaGuardia Community College,CUNYAuthor of: "How to Help Your Child Excel in Math" "Master Math: Solving Word Problems" "Arithmetic and Algebra....Again"

These are so beautiful, the language is lovely
These are so beautiful, the language is lovely. I have used this in my classroom of gifted students (first and 2nd graders). Start with math Fables, then Math for All Seasons, then Mathterpieces (the kids love this one best but need thinking skills first). Lovely.

I love this book!
This book is a great math story with rhyming, addition, and counting with animals, birds, and insects. My 3 year old loves this story and it has helped teach him simple addition. I would recommend for anyone that reads to their child to purchase this book!

Good book
My six-year-old grandson loves math and this is one of many math books that I have given him. He enjoyed the book more than I did, but that's what counts.

Great brain stretcher
I read and reread this with my 6 year old. It gives me lots of chances to teach simple addition (up to 10). The pictures are charming and entertain him. We make up stories about the different groupings of animals/insects.

My preschool loves this book
When we received this in the mail, my four year old wasn't overly excited. I had heard good things about this author so I went ahead and pulled it out at bedtime. After two pages, he was asking for more and now it is one of his favorite books and his absolute favorite math book.
