Mr. Monk Gets on Board

This is a good rendition of the TV series, but I find it a little disconcerting that the story is told from Natalie's point of view. I must have missed the episode or book where she got comfortable calling Mr. Monk by his first name. Last I knew, she tried it and didn't like it. I'll have to read a couple more of the series to decide whether to read them all.

Mr. Monk and the Cruise of Crime
It’s been a couple of months since the founding of Monk and Teeger, Consulting Detectives, and business is very slow. So slow, in fact, that Natalie is doing anything she can to drum up business. So when a guy they meet at a crime scene suggests the B to Sea Cruise, Natalie decides to go. It sounds like a great way to network, and a week on a cruise ship will be fun.Or it would if Monk hadn’t decided to tag along. As Natalie and Monk begin a game of musical rooms, Natalie overhears a conversation that makes her think someone is about to be murdered. Is she right? Can she and Monk prevent the murder from happening? And what about the strange accidents that keep happening aboard the ship?I’ve been waiting the next installment in the Monk book series, and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. The plot is fun and clever with some great twists. I might have guessed a few of the clues, but I still didn’t quite have them all together. The character development continues to be top notch as well. There is more depth to these characters than we ever got on the show, and I love them more for it. And, of course, there’s the humor. I was laughing and grinning as the book progressed just like always. If you were a fan of the show, you owe it to yourself to check out the books as well. You’ll love every minute as Monk continues to solve another great case.

A comfy visit with friends
Reading the Monk series is like visiting with friends. A cozy, easy read that kept my interest from the start.

Not really what I expected sadly
I have read ALL the Monk books and have watched the whole TV series and unfortunately this book just seemed "off". Hy Conrad obviously was a key member of the Monk Production team and knows the character very well but with "Mr Monk Gets On Board" it made me want to jump ship.I didn't feel that this was a classic Mr Monk story. It is very focussed around a new dynamic - Natalie being Mr Monk's boss of a Private Investigation firm. It's more about Natalie than Monk and I found this a little frustrating. There was one part, towards the end, that Natalie throws in a sarcastic comment which after a few seconds Mr Monk supposedly understands to be a sarcastic remark. Really? Our Mr Monk understanding when someone is being sarcastic - to quote Mr Monk "I don't think so!" When has he ever understood things like that. Maybe this is Monk growing out of one of his many problems but if so it wasn't really explained that way.Lee Goldberg had introduced a "girlfriend" type character in the last book which was an interesting addition. However, the fact she ran a Poop store was not exactly a funny storyline but did give more writing material to bring out even more of Monk's phobias I suppose! *MINOR SPOILER ALERT* - (whilst I don't normally like to give anything away this is not a plot giveaway comment and actually has no real bearing on what happened in this story, I'm just alerting you if you haven't read the book yet you may not wish to know). In this book it appears that the author is going to be getting rid of the Poop store for any future books and even maybe the girlfriend story line. Whilst I'd be happy to see the girlfriend story continue, I'm pleased that her store is potentially being flushed away! So, I finished the book last night and unfortunately it hasn't left me wanting more. It felt very different and it has taken me longer to read this story than all the others and I could quite easily put this down and almost forget I was reading it. I also missed the Captain and Randy duo and Devlin just isn't a character I'm warming too.I hope if there are any other Monk books written by this author that they can be a little more "Monkish"Thanks anyway :-)

Hy Conrad keeps the OCD ball rolling!
For those of us who miss the show, these books are a fix for a jones. Understandably the show had to end and though it left a few not quite tied-up loose ends, the book series has given answers. It is not quite the same as watching Tony Shaloub and the cast on screen but it is a great substitute! The books roll along with a page turning compulsion. I couldn't put it down. As usual the reader gets to match wits with Monk and try to solve the crime before he does. It is possible once in a while too. My hope was always that they might film a tv movie for Monk like they did for Columbo and Mattlock. Highly recommend the new books by Hy Conrad and eagerly look forward to the next. I must admit, this was the 1st book I can remember reading from cover to cover without stopping for anything. No the Monk books are not the best mysteries ever written. But they are sure some of the most entertaining and filled with fun!

Mr. Monk manages to solve his usual quota of murders on board a cruise ship. Very interesting and unique situation.
A very enjoyable cruise with Natalie and Monk with his usual OCD (not a funny condition, but he makes it funny) problems. Natalie smooths things over with her usual competence and helps solve the murders that seem to follow Mr. Monk. These murders seem especially mysterious and hard to figure out. The writer brings in old friends to help, and modern technology also helps. The new characters add to the flavor and interest of the story. All of this is set on an aging cruise ship which adds to Monk's OCD problems and discomfort.

ANCHORS AWAY ?
I'm not about to divulge the plot as some are prone to do. Suffice it to say that it's the same high quality sleuthing readers of MONK have come to know and love. The new author is every bit as good as the guy who started our MONK addiction.........Loved every bit of it.

Mr Monk gets on BORED.
I found this story a little bit boring not up to the usual Monk stuff. Boy is that man selfish. This script was never televised and I can see why.
