Discrete Mathematics and its Applications

Very difficult to understand, good return policy
I have a good math background and I found I did not have a strong enough base for this book. As an senior engineering major and a teaching assistant at my university, I thought I would be academically prepared to open this text and able to understand at least the first few chapters. Spent hours going over the problems and readings and nothing clicked. The return policy was great though.

Decent Text
While the book has a very comprehensive overview of logic, algorithms, and definitions; however, the expression for understanding the examples (such as how to calculate matrices) doesn't give a exact method of how they came to that conclusion. Or why exactly the truth tables are what they are. It contains everything you need to do discrete mathematics, but doesn't concretely give you a sense of correct method of order. If you have a tutor, mentor, or professor to help you its pretty easy, but it definitely is not teach yourself discrete mathematics.

Still expensive.
Well written. Had to buy for my course for much more $$$ years ago. Had no choice.

Good book to learn Discrete math is very clear.

Four Stars
large and unwieldy book, but the problems are helpful in understanding applied discrete math .

Bit overpriced
The contents of the book are not really that helpful, often just simple information that can be found online or in lectures but, it can supplement lectures a bit with the useful problem sections.

Excellent book
Probably the best book on this subject I've come across - pitched at just the right level for my needs and also very comprehensive covering the topics I'm interested in. Can highly recommend it.

Great Text, occasionally a bit rushed though
There are tons of questions which is great and obviously that's more than half of what's needed to learn but I did find the theory is occasionally a bit rushed and grammatical nuances of the mathematics aren't covered. I would pair this text with Transition to Advanced Mathematics (Chartrand, Polimeni, Zhang) to get a more full image of the basics of discrete mathematics and logic

Lots of exercises
The book was a great help to me during a Computer Science Discrete Mathematics course and covered most subjects that were touched upon in the Lectures and then some. What wasn't in the book were excursions and quirks particular to our lecturer.
