Great "Vernier Calipers"!
I've seen several reviews of people complaining that these don't measure in 1/8th inch increments but I would like to clarify that these can measure down to 0.001 inch increments which is way better. If you really want then you can even ignore the extra digits and round to 0.025" increments (each smallest tick mark on the top scale running down the handle lining up with the 0 on the moving part) which can be used to find the elusive 1/8th (0.125). If you can remember that then this will still be more useful than a tape measure. It is probably confusing for someone who hasn't used them before but how they work is literally in the name "Vernier Calipers". Just Google how to use Vernier Calipers for anyone who isn't familiar with how they work. It does take a little getting used to but it's totally worth it. Never worry about replacing a battery in a digital pair again.

Great kit!
A ver nice four piece kit! Well made caliper, 1” micrometer, ruler and calibration tool! All conveniently housed in a nice plastic case. Heck of a deal!

Perfect for my DIY needs
I am not a professional machinist that needs tools accurate to ten thousandth of an inch. I just need to check the size of bolts or hole diameters so I get the right stuff for my DIY projects. I also own a plastic version of the vernier caliper. It is to bendy and sloppy to be much good. This unit is a sturdy metal device that gives consistent and accurate enough readings for all my needs. I considered a battery operated read-out caliper. Then I remembered how many other tools I have with batteries that are all too often dead when I really need to measure something. These calipers won't go dead. For the price they are a real deal.

Very good value for everyday measurement.
For the price, this is a very good deal on a tool. I just received it, and my only complaint is that what appears to be a thumbwheel which might allow you to roll to a more precise measurement is actually a fixed disc of stainless steel. And I'll note that the set screw which allows you to fix a measurement only turns about 1/3 of a turn between fully open and fully screwed-down. The plastic case it came with is utilitarian and seems reasonably sturdy. Mine arrived with a cracked corner, but I think I'm not going to worry about that. Also note that this thing came with no instructions whatsoever. This isn't a problem for me, but it's worth noting. Still, none of these observations is a complaint. I think this caliper will do a very nice job of measuring nuts, bolts, and other small objects that I'm planning to measure. It's solidly constructed and seems to be nicely machined. It's probably not the tool to use if you are going to machine metal to tight tolerances. But for day-to-day reasonably precise measurements, this is a terrific value for home use.

Inexpensive pretty nice vernier caliper for occasional use
Well, the half round thumb thing is a fake wheel - it can't rotate. Millimeters are easy to read, inches are less easy. The knurled knob to hold a reading works. The marks are engraved and accurate - the vernier reading scales came adjusted correctly. The jaw faces meet neatly with no light showing through. The only moving parts are the slide and the set screw. The fake fine adjustment wheel is also on the $85 Starrett https://www.amazon.com/Starrett-125MEA-6-150-Stainless-Resolution/dp/B000VDZEAC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541450139&sr=8-1 which is a "nicer" (also made in China) vernier caliper.

Excellent value
A well-construction tool. Just as accurate as the electronic ones, but without batteries to wear out. Easy to read once you understand how it works--these things have been around for centuries.

After adjustment, good for home workshop use
Both vernier scales were not properly zeroed. After spending some time with a feeler gauge set and a known-good caliper, I was able to loosen the small Phillips-head screws and adjust each scale to zero. There is enough existing slop in the holes to allow the scales to be shifted to zero. The metric vernier scale was installed at a slight angle and I was not able to correct it. One of the tension adjusting set-screws on the top was not installed flush. I removed the screw and found a nub at the end that was not removed when it was parted, and the person that assembled the unit damaged the head trying to screw it in further. I replaced it with a screw from a caliper that I was throwing out. I expected problems like these at this price point and after adjustment, it works well enough for my application.

Well-made stainless steel. Slides easily but stays put when you stop moving it. Confidence to 1/4 of a millimeter.
It is indeed stainless steel and it is well-made. It was constructed with tight tolerances. It slides easily but stays put when you stop moving it. Perfect! It is exactly what I wanted. I have confidence in the measurement down to about 1/4 of a millimeter. I did not want to buy one of the cheap plastic ones for under $5 and I also did not want to spend $50. At about $18 this is a good quality tool at an affordable price. Includes a sturdy plastic case to protect it through many years of use.
