Be aware that these frames are 2-sided. So, in order to make 2 trees, I needed 4 photos of each person. (2 for each tree, front and back.)Yes, the openings are plastic, but glass would be difficult for such a small frame. I still find this frame to be beautiful and elegant. The tree itself is a nice weight and very sturdy.Be sure to press the frames firmly together when re-assembling to get the best hold when replacing the metal pins.My mom and MIL both loved the gift. We have a family of 2 adults and 5 kids, so the 7 opening frame was perfect. I ordered the photos to cascade down kind of zig-zag fashion by age, so my hubby was at the top, my 7 year old was at the bottom, and the rest of us were in-between according to age.Also, I used color photos, and it looked just as lovely as the black and whites in the product picture.

Aw! I'm really satisfied with that very cute and vintage looking tree!! I will say there is no mystery how to put a little size of photos,yes,it is probably a little bit smaller then wallet size photo but still the picture doesn't lie about sizes and nice quality of metal havy as I expected.

This really is beautiful and a great gift idea. Make sure you check the measurements as it is relatively small overall and the pictures are very petite. Just big enough for somebody's head unless you scale the pic down-like wallet size or smaller. The only other con is that there is no glass in the frames-it is plastic and as other reviewers mentioned the frames are held together by little tiny pins that stick into foam between the two sides of each frame. While they work and I had no prob, if you lose one or have little kids I could c how it could become a prob.

This family tree is lovely and just the right size for an end table or mantle. The tree itself is made of a very good quality pewter and finished well. The picture frames could be finished a bit better but lookers eyes go directly to the pictures and not the frames. This was a 90th birthday gift for my mother. She loves it and has received compliments from everyone who has seen it. Most want to know where they can get one. Now that I have perfected the art of editing and printing these small photos, I have purchased a second tree.I was able to fit the pictures in the frames using a combination of Windows Photo and MS Word software. I used Windows Photo to edit and crop the photos and then copied them into Word to adjust the size while maintaining aspect ratio. For the printing, I first printed the photos on a laser printer and plain paper until the correct size was achieved (that saved on the color ink) and then printed in color on Kodak paper..

I bought this because I liked the design and ornamentation shown in the picture. However I was wary of the quality, the picture makes the item look cheap. I figured for the price I was willing to take a chance on it. When I opened the Amazon package, the picture on the box didn't make the frame look any better....but when I took the frame out, I was very pleasantly surprised. The tree has a nice finish, and is solid metal. The picture frames hang nicely and do their job. I would definitely recommend this.

My Nan loved this. I filled it with photos of her grandparents, parents, siblings, etc. She was thrilled by it. She lives with my Aunt and doesn’t have a ton of space for things. With this she can have a good amount of photos displayed without taking up a huge footprint.

My mom is a big "family tree" fan so when I saw this I got very excited. There were others that were more expensive but this was good for my needs. It is a little flimsy. The small frames are very thin metal and the windows are just clear plastic. The photos are held in by little nails that fit into holes on each side of the frames. You stick the nails into the holes and they go into some black foam pieces that are sandwiched between plastic, photo, frame. The frames are 2 sided but the way the frames fit together one side looks better than the other. One side of the frame fits into the other side of the frame. Its hard to describe. It doesn't look horrible but I just hope I'm describing it so you know exactly what you're buying. Of course like most anything else more money will get you better quality but for the price, the idea, and the basic function its worth the money.

WARNING!!! This piece is EXTREMELY SMALL!!! I mean, it's like 10 inches to the very peak. The picture frames are a little over and inch. I shrunk the picture of just the face of a relative in the oval frame, and the person was almost unrecognizable!Ok, but the design, and pewter style metal is awesome! The one star is a little harsh. But I wanted people to know about this surprising detail to its small size!
