Exceptional Product
I bought this scale based on its features and excellent reviews here and after looking around extensively at a variety of scales, their feaures, and their reviews. I have had this scale for just 2 months now so I can't speak to long term reliability, just current performance and usability. So far, it is easily one of the best items I have purchased and a very good value for the money at the price I paid of $36.95 w/free shipping on Amazon. Great accuracy and precision. Very good size. Excellent easy to read display. Wide range of measureable weights to the nearest 0.2 pounds. Excellent customer service with follow up email by the seller to be sure that I was happy with it and having no problems. First, I should say that I set up the scale in a flat area (as recommended) on linoleum. I compared it to my old spring scale and it was within a pound or two. (The old scale was a well rated spring scale that despite an XL dial was hard to read, never fully stabilized for a clear precise read, and was difficult to get full foot placement despite the scales XL size). I also compared it on one occasion to my weight at the doctor's office and it was within a pound. I tried getting on and off repeatedly on a number of occasions immediately or within several minutes after it gave a weight and reset and it always gives the same weight so it clearly gives consistent readings (as long as I do nothing that changes my weight between readings). Another reviewer suggested that it was programmed to repeat the same weight if remeasured within a certain period, so I experimented. On numerous occasions I would weigh myself and than immediately drink varying amounts water or take a dump and weigh myself again and my weight would change in increments of 0.2 pounds that appeared to reflect these weight changes. It also easily showed my water weight changes after an hour or more of sweating exercise - which could be as much as three pounds. I did not try to confirm with known weights whether the scale is accurate throughout its range up to 440 pounds but it seems to be accurate in my weight range, which on this scale has been between 220 to 240 pounds. I did test the lower range with hand weights. With a 2 pound weight on either side (to represent small feet to the sensors) each time it registered 0.0, so it appears it won't register weights of 4 pounds or less. When I tried a 3 pound weight on either side it did register 6.0 pounds exactly so I assume that this is its lower limit and that it is reasonably accurate at lower weights and would also be a good scale for children. I do like the size of the scale although I would have preferred a bit more length. I have size 13 (US) feet and have to position my feet carefully on the scale so that my heel and toes are fully on (I have about a spare 1/4" front and rear). If you have feet larger than size 14 (US) you might have to have your toes extend over the front of the scale and keep your weight between your heels and the balls of your feet. The width is more than adequate for just about anyone. Good luck trying to find a larger household scale anywhere. The large attractive blue backlit display is perfect with nice large numbers with good contrast that are very easy to see in any light. The display also stays on for about 10 seconds after you get off the scale so that if you have a large amount of belly fat that gets in the way of seeing the display while you are on it (or have really bad eyesight) you have plenty of time to view the reading after you get off it. About 6 weeks after the scale arrived the company sent an email asking me to contact them if I had any problems with the scale, included a summary of best practices for operating the scale, provided a support contact number and requested feedback on Amazon. Since it has been such and exceptional item I thought it well worth the time in putting in a review.

Originally disappointed, now impressed . . . . see update!
. . . . in light of all the glowing reviews read, and based on other purchasers' experience I purchased this product. Looks good, very wide - as advertised, but disappointingly inconsistent. Followed all instructions, to the letter, but never managed to get it to weigh the same twice. Both my husband and I tried, and both got varying weights. Not helpful when embarking on a weight reduction regime, so it is unfortunately having to go back. Thank goodness Amazon's return system is so user-friendly. Update August 1st 2010 I was somewhat surprised to receive an email response from the Vice President of EatSmart Products within about 20 minutes of the posting the above. He assured me I must have received a lemon (his words), which apparently happens from time to time. He also went on to say, and I quote, "I was hoping to get you a replacement immediately under our warranty program. Its the least we can do after putting a defective product in your hands." I was duly impressed and told him so in my responding email. However, to date I have not received a replacement, nor do I now expect/want one to arrive. Having re-read other reviews of this and other EatSmart models, I believe this model is, in fact, a lemon. Other models seem to be consistently accurate, whereas, it appears, this particular model is not. I am now looking elsewhere for a consistent and accurate scale. Further update August 4th 2010 Today I received an unexpected package via FedEx. I had duly returned my 'lemon' and received a refund. I thought that was the end of the story. Not so! A new scale from EatSmart Products, with a letter from the Vice President, apologizing for the lemon and enclosing a new scale, which, he informed me, has been thoroughly tested for accuracy. This accuracy I can confirm. Both my husband and I tested, and re-tested, and there was never a variation. I even tested it with one of my cats - spot on each time. EatSmart clearly stand by their products, recognise there are occasional flaws, and quickly correct the situation. I am a very impressed and happy customer. Obviously a company which values their name and reputation, and rightly so. Further update: September 23rd 2013 In case anyone is interested, my scale still gives accurate readings, day after day! Yet another update: 11th June 2015 - moved to the UK, with my scale, which is still going strong, and still on the original batteries! Such a great scale! Further update! 13th November 2017 - still going strong, still a great scale! . . . . And another update - 19th June 2019 - I find it hard to believe I have had this scale almost 9 years! Everyone still hops on every day, and it carries on giving accurate results. . . . and again - 25th July 2023 - still going strong! What an amazing scale!

WIDE platform is fantiastic!
Fantastic WIDE platform for those who might be a little wide yourself! Accurate weight every time that does not change when doing multiple weighs, like some do annoyingly. And the LED read out is nice and big, larger than most others, so it is easy to see. Scale is thin and it doesn't stick up far. But this scale's best thing is that fantastic big wide platform. You will love that extra space first time you step on. And at this price this scale is a steal.

Very nice scale. Accurate. Easy to read and use.
I have only had this scale for a couple weeks now and would update my review should the performance of it change in the coming weeks, but so far this scale is great. Other reviews have talked about inconsistent weigh-ins but so far mine has been spot-on. I do recommend (as instructed) to put the scale on a hard flat surface(e.g., no carpeting). Moving the scale around may cause the scale to have to re-calibrate which is an extra step in using the scale. Calibrating is simple but will take extra time in your weigh-in. Just note this if you are in a hurry when weighing yourself. I found a nice spot in the bathroom (on tile) and leave it there. So far this is proving to be a great machine. It is nice looking. Very low-lying to the floor. Very wide which I like. I don't have to feel like I am balancing on it. And the best part for me is the display. Nice large blue lighted LED characters. I can easily read the numbers. When you step on, the numbers change while setting your weight, then flash when final weight determined, and then they go steady after final weight determined. You can step off and they remain lit for about 10 to 15 seconds, then it turns off automatically. Simple. This scale does not have any fancy-dancy additions like body fat, water content, etc. It just weighs you. You can select lbs or kilos and that is it. That's all I wanted. I cannot compare this unit to other brands as I have not tried them. I bought this to replace a 20-year old scale that served me well over the years but seemed to be losing its accuracy lately. The newer styling of the Precision Plus and the accuracy of it has made this purchase a good one for me. The scale has been spot-on so far for me. I can weigh myself multiple times during one weigh-in and the numbers are the same each time. Note that the scale weighs to 'two-tenths' of a pound accuracy (i.e., .0, .2, .4, .6, .8).

First scale bad, replacement good
I just got this scale today, and it seems to be pretty consistent when you don't move it at all and weigh yourself several times in a row, but i have a tiny bathroom and don't have floor space to dedicate to a scale being in the same exact place all the time. I usually store my scale away and then just take it out to weigh myself. However, with this scale, if i move it even an inch on my flat tile bathroom floor, the number changes. I weighed myself about 10 times tonight on 4 different spots on the floor and got weights that were about 6 pounds apart from each other. That's just not accurate enough for me. The manual says it will auto calibrate when you turn it on after moving it, but it didn't seem to do any such thing. My previous scale didn't have this issue, so i don't think it's my floor. I will likely be returning this. UPDATE: Within a few hours of writing this review, the eatsmart team had contacted me and said they'd send a replacement. I got the replacement within 2 days of writing this review. The new scale definitely works better. Now when i move the scale it displays a "C" indicating that's it's re-calibrating, whereas the first scale never did that. Still when i first move it i occasionally get an odd number but then if i just step on it again it does the "C" and then i get a normal number. I did 10 readings again on the same 4 spots on my floor, and except for the odd first number sometimes, now the readings were within 0.2lbs of each other instead of 6lbs. So i think the first scale was definitely bad. So I give the Eatsmart customer service 5 stars (they were prompt and apologetic and I never even contacted them), I give the second scale i received 4-5 stars (it's really easy to use, i like the look, and i like that you just step on it to turn it on, and it's accurate except for sometimes a bit off number before it calibrates after you move it), but I'm only giving a 4 star review because i really would prefer if they could send a good scale the first time, and reading other reviews, it seems like a lot of people have gotten a "lemon" at first. They make a good product, but some more quality testing before it leaves their store or maybe more robust shipping methods may be in order here. Overall though, I'm satisfied with this product.

Good quality scale & consistent readings
The Eat Smart Precision Plus scale is a very good product. It looks great, has a low profile, and is a good size making it easy and very stable to stand on. It gives very repeatable readings. The manual says to auto-calibrate the scale by pressing down on it and letting go if you move the scale, but there is a sticker on the scale that says there is no need to tap on, and I have also found it to be unnecessary. My wife & I are very pleased with this scale.

Absolute Best Scales
Review Update: We have owned these scales for nine (9) years and they have consistently performed well for the entire time! Thank you Eatsmart for making a quality product! We purchased these scales several months ago. Initially we noticed that they gave inconsistent weights and seemed to frequently need calibrating. Almost every day when we would get on the scales we got an incorrect weight and then a "C" appeared on the readout screen. When we got back on the scales they would give a weight closer to correct. I assumed the "C" on the screen meant the scales were going through the calibration procedure. I called the Eat Smart company and was told that I was not calibrating correctly. So I followed the directions given me (tap lightly on the scales) for the calibration. The weights given by the scales is still very inconsistent and the calibration is so frequently off that we just calibrate each time before we get on the scales. However, the registered weight may go up or down as much as 0.6 lb. within a matter of minutes with no change in the person being weighed. I have not tried other digital scales,so I do not know if this typical performance for all types of digital scales. Previously we had medical scales of the type you see in a doctor's office. However, these scales were heavy and because we are older now they were hard to move around for cleaning. I miss our accurate medical scales and would love to have them back. "Bill" president of EatSmart called in response to our comments and said he would like to send us a set of replacement for our original scales. The new scales are more consistent and do not require frequent calibration. All electronic scales are only accurate to 0.2 lb so if you want better than this you will have to get medical scales. The Eatsmart scales meet our present needs and we plan to keep them. They are lightweight and easy to move for cleaning and easy to read. Because of the performance and excellent customer support from Eatsmart I can recommend these scales. We have owned these scales several years and thought I would give an update. The weight given by these scales is probably good enough to help you keep up with your weight, but they are not accurate. It is not uncommon to get a measurement, get off the scales, void some fluid, get back on the scales and get a higher reading. Although the higher reading is only 0.4-0.6 lbs. highter, it is enough to let you know these scales are of the medical scales accuracy. We plan to keep the scales, but if you are looking for scales that will give you accurate weight every time you step on, this is not the one.

Product Tested
So many positive reviews and so many reviews about lemons and imprecision. On account of the positive reviews I thought, "Surely, I won't get a lemon?" How many lemons does this company have? It seems like too much for this product to be on the market. I step on the scale. I'm 162. I step on it again and I'm 155. I go to the doctors office and I'm 158. What range, inaccuracy, and imprecision!!! No better than my $10 dollar scale from Wal-Mart. I also put my dog on it after having taken him to the vet (they weigh dogs in each time). Again, inaccurate. Very disappointed. Will be returning. What a waste of time, money, and energy. Buyer beware, I and others have warned you. I'm out $45 and still don't know how much I weigh. Just spend a quarter at a mall scale. EDIT: So I did more tests with it. I have a number of weights and put them on to see what would happen. A 20lb gave me a spot on 20lb reading. A 7 lb gave me a spot on reading. And a 15lb game me a 15lb reading as well. I tried different spots each time with each weight (middle, left and right spots) and the results were accurate. My advice is to make sure the scale is on a flat, hard, level surface. I checked the leveling in my house to find the best spot. The original readings were MY FAULT. Again, MY FAULT. The unit was calibrating. I still get variations when I weigh myself, but the variances are not as large. Still, after being on expensive scales, I'm wary of readings. This scale may not be accurate, but its precision and variances are acceptable (a variance of approximately .2lbs is modal for me). I'm not completely happy with the scale yet. I'll test some more and then re-post. I'll give it 5 stars for now so I do not hurt its rating (innocent before proven guilty). Next time I go to the vet or doctor I'll note the accurate weight and re-post to let everyone know how the scale compares. EDIT: I've had it for a week now and test it almost every time I use it. I've come to the conclusion that the scale can be accurate, but that it is EXTREMELY susceptible to leveling (i.e., the floor MUST be at a 180 degree angle) and floor changes (e.g., floor cannot be bumpy). I came to this conclusion because the scale was giving me false readings; it claimed I was 148 lbs when I knew I was around 155. Seven pounds is a HUGE difference. I tested it with the weights I have at home, and, sure enough, the readings were off for all the weights (15%-20% off per weight). As a final review, I'm going to have to give it three stars because I always have to be wary of its positioning. Move the scale even an inch and the reading will probably be off. It is possible to get an accurate reading, but I'll always have to question the readings and keep my weight set next to the scale for testing. Even though accuracy is possible, a scale that constantly has to be doubted and checked is not a five star product. I suggest purchasing/using a body tape instead. Accurate, inexpensive, and portable. EDIT: I've noticed that the scale randomly turns on multiple times throughout the day. I believe this happens when people walk around it or there are other vibrations around it. I've been as far as seven feet away from it and noticed it turning on as if it sensed something. As I'm typing this, I've looked over and it's on. A HUGE BATTERY KILLER. Knocking it down another star for this. Again, you're probably better off with a measuring tape. EDIT: I have the scale in my bedroom. Last night, without anyone moving around, it just kept turning on and off, basking the room in its blue light. It would turn off and on in random intervals, ranged between 5-20 seconds. Very annoying. I thought it would stop on its own eventually, but after half an hour, I just got up and took the batteries out. Extremely disappointed in this product. I've been very fair with this product, giving it five stars and the benefit of the doubt while I tested it, but over time, this product has spoken for itself. I'm knocking it down another star, for a final score of 1 star. Get yourself a body tape. More accurate, reliable, and affordable, not to mention less frustrating. This product was disappointing. EDIT: Customer support contacted me and sent me a new scale; they were even kind enough to send some tiles for better stabilizing of the scale and thus accurate readings. I'm surprised they contacted me, after all, the product has thousands of reviews. To conclude: 1. Customer service is out of this world: they sent me a new scale (they paid for the new scale and shipping) and even sent stabilizing tiles. 2. THIS COMPANY STANDS BY THEIR PRODUCT 3. As for the scale? What they sent is everything I wanted it to be: I just step on it and it gives me an ACCURATE reading. I've tested it using the methodology I delineated above. If I can give any suggestion it would be to get the product directly from the company and not Amazon. Amazon seems to have quite a few faulty units. FINAL EDIT: Great customer service, sub-par scale. Despite numerous attempts at calibration (the company even sent me tiles to better support the scale) I could never get accurate readings. I used different weights - 7 lbs, 15, 20, 25, 40 - and the readings were always off, for all of them. Even worse, the readings would change, so I couldn't calculate what the deviation was. Moreover, if you're off by 5% by one of the weights, that problem gets even more exacerbated when weighing a 200 lb person. I even bought another one, tested it, and the same issues arose. I ended up going with an expensive $100 mechanical scale. It cost much more, but at least it does its job. At its core, this scale exhibits far too much variance and is ultimately inaccurate. If you can afford it, get a real mechanical scale, akin to what is found at a doctor's office. If you're on a budget, get some measuring tape for your waist.

I like my new scale
Nice scale! It's simple and easy to use. I doesn't have a lot of stupid options that no one ever uses, you don't have to do anything to make it work except put the batteries in and step on. It just gives you your weight when you step on it. Period. Exactly what I wanted. I can even make the dog sit on it if I want to know how much Kaypo weighs. I was thrilled when I lost five pounds the first day - it seems the scale needs to recalibrate after first set up, and my weight fluctuated for the first four or five times I got on, each time downward. I don't suppose it will keep that up, too bad. And the scale itself is nice and wide with gripping feet that don't slide. Easy to stand on even for me with poor balance.

Broken
This is the 2nd time buying this scale, I had one for years and it started glitching so I decided to buy another one because it’s served me so well for so long. I received it broken and I can’t return it. I’m so sad, what a waste of money.
