WEN Portable Band Saw for Metal, 10-Amp, Variable Speed, Handheld (94396)

i had just recently gotten a mill an lathe to learn with an the fist big leason i learned was cutting steel with a hack saw is a pain in the ass so i got online an found horizontal bandsaw looked like the best option for what im working with but the prices was more than i was willing to pay then i stumbled across the wen bandsaw which was the same brand as the mill i recently gotten an from my experience i had with the mill i figured id take a chance on the saw an for it to be so much cheaper than other saws with the same cut capacity i was alittle worried what i would end up with but after getting it an using it to cut a few old hitches i had, 1.25" square it cut through in less than a might an i tried to use it to cut through a head off a 2.2liter gm motor so it was aluminum but it was able to get half way through on both sides leaving about an inch in the middle for me to finish getting through with the hack saw so its able to cut more than i expected so im very happy with it. i read alot of comments in the reviews saying the blade that it comes with isn't the best but with the little use i have on it now it doesnt look to have any wear or show signs of dulling so keep that in mind if u do pick this up, u might want to invest into blades from a different brands but as of right now im extremely happy even if the blade it came with is crap in the long run, its going to save me so much energy an time its well worth the money, only wish i could buy a base that would let me use it like a miter saw. oh an it is alittle heavy but thats not really a bad thing in my opinion but others did complain about it so if u work with it daily an make a living doing so then theres probably better options, this is the only tool like this ive ever owned or gotten to use so i dont know what the standards are to make it something that u would want to use while making a living so a few things i notices that would probably be expect for one that u would want to use daily but it does have a speed control 1 to 6 each number having a click as u come to it and theres also a light that can be turned on an off by a switch which i didnt notice at first an was glad to see once i found it but was surprised it wasn't just tied into the trigger but again i dont use something like this daily so that might be nice to have when working with alot but the down side to what i seen was very minimum adjustments for the belt or at least where i expected it to be, but if something happens an the blade doesnt run straight an true causing it to walk off the wheels i dont see any way of being able to adjust that, that might not be something they come with an the geometry of the tool might be all thats required to keep the blade running straight but i assumed there would be something that would let u adjust that if it was an issue. i had no issue with getting the blade on an tightened an it ran straight without issue so that may be something i was expecting when its not really a thing but that is the only down side i could find in the short time ive used it that might cause someone to not to want to buy this but if your someone who is just buying one to use around the house or for a hobby its perfect especially for the price its hard to beat. over time if anything drastic happens with it, i'll come back and update the review an hopefully i'll have some pictures to show but as of now, its one of my new favorite tools. working on a miter base for it now an if i cna manage to make something that works an is easy to recreate i'll try to share that as well cause that is one thing i wish i could find for it is a miter base but so far what ive found is more expensive than the next one up from this one that comes with a base so id just buy that an have 2 saws and a base for less than buying one of the bases i have seen for sell so hopefully i can pull off something that others can manage too.

We needed a portable band saw for a job we were doing removing shelving from a local institution. I rarely need a portable band saw and was reluctant to spend $300 for big name brand saw. I bought this saw , but was not expecting it to perform the way it did. We had a Dewalt portable band saw also in use on this job, but this saw cut better than the Dewalt and was lighter and easier to use. I was very glad that I bought this saw. I can't say how well this saw will perform over time, but I will do my best to update this review. The saw did not ship with a blade, but I bought standard Dewalt portable band saw blades and they fit perfectly. The saw cut well, blades were easy to install and the saw seemed to have a lot of power. I am very pleased with this saw. I have had this bandsaw for 2 years. It works just as well today as it did when I bought it. I am in business and we use the saw to cut pallet racking frames. I don't use it on a daily basis, and sometimes don't use it for weeks, but I use it on a regular basis and I am still pleased with my purchase. Updated after 3 years of use - this saw keeps working out for me very well. It works as well today as it did when I bought it. I still use it mostly to cut pallet rack frames. Again - I don't use this saw on a daily basis , but I do use it often. I wish that Wen made a case for this machine. I keep mine stored in the box in which it was shipped- the foam packaging holds the saw perfectly.

I have been using this product for months now and have formed my opinion. Also, I have not been compensated by anyone in writing this review - This is really my opinion, based on my experience, and a sample size of one. It should be mentioned that this product is required if you do not want to deal with cutting metal by hand using a hacksaw, or an angle-grinder which is more messy than a hacksaw. You can get cleaner, more accurate cuts in less than half the time with this tool. Knife makers rejoice! You should wear hearing protection when using this tool. It is extremely loud. Did I mention you should wear hearing protection? The blade that came with it gave up in a relatively short period of time, however, I was able to easily find higher quality replacement blades for a reasonable price from Amazon and they have been more resilient. I also bought a SWAG portaband table for fast, easier, and more accurate cutting of metal and wood. All together, based on my experience, I believe this is a good product and would recommend it to others that need/want this type of equipment.

I was in need of a band saw for cutting metal rods and didn't have the room for a large band saw in my limited space garage. I saw this on Amazon and know that Wen is a decent company. $99 was a good price and within my budget. All you have to do is take it out of box, install the blade, tighten the 2 bolts and you're good to go. Made easy cutting of the stainless steel rods. I do like that it has adjustable speeds. My only gripe is it's rather loud and I needed to wear ear plugs. But all in all great deal, quality product and ease of use. I'm a satisfied customer. Definitely recommend!

I bought the wen porta band with hesitation. Im a Milwaukee and Dewalt as well as porta cable dude, however this band saw has worked flawlessly, speed variations, led light and well made construction. Only thing that i find or lesser quality is the band saw factory blade sucks. Replace it with a name brand blade and your off to the races. Ive been using it for 90 days approximately with no complaints (other than blade that comes with saw cheap) cut everything ive thrown at it like butter. Will buy more wen products as needed. Recommend it, and 5 stars because it performs just as good or better than my old name brand saws. Nice equipment. Thumbs up.

I spent quite a bit of time going back-and-forth trying to decide if I wanted to go with this WEN porta-band or just go with a self-cutting model of a different brand. I ended up taking the chance and buying the WEN porta-band. It arrived quickly and I pulled it out to put it to use the same day it arrived. After the first cut through some damascus, I wasn't really happy. The cut was at an angle I knew I had held it firmly against the plate while cutting. I took the bottom plate off to see if there was an adjustment that I didn't see in the manual -- yep, read through it to see if I was blind while adjusting it -- and I didn't find anything. The next day, I loosened the bottom plate, and began testing shims that I had on hand -- using a 123 block to give me a good idea about when it was at 90° to the blade. I had to stop with regular metal shims as I didn't have anything thick enough on hand. I resorted to folding a paper towel over itself several times and managed to shim it quickly after that. I did a few test cuts on the damascus and the new cuts were straight. The cutting speed with the included blade is good and I never knew I needed an LED headlight on a porta-band until the moment I turned it on. Extra light with aging eyes is always welcome! Overall, I'm very happy with the WEN for the price I paid. Though, I probably need to mill a shim to replace the paper towel at some point. ;)

I was in construction for over 40 years and have used portable band saws to many times to count. Probably thousands of times. The saw is well made. A little heavy but at 73, a lot of things are heavy now. I like having two speeds. I use the slower speed for more precise cuts and the faster setting to get the job done. If you don't already know, when you are through using the saw, be sure to take the tension off the blade. Doing this will prolong the life of the blade and saw. At my age, I'll probably never need to buy another saw. Will it last on a construction site? Probably not. You probably know what I mean. But for around the house or small shop, it's a winner. I would recommend this saw to friends and family.

I’ve been cutting with it for 5 years now and the only complaint is it’s loud but they all are. It was about 30 dollars cheaper back then but it’s still worth the money today. Get the table from swag off road and you will love it. Fits perfectly.

I like the saw, it seems to be pretty rugged. Have to see if it will last long term. For hobby use I think it's a good choice. Get a good blade for it, the one that comes with tha saw is not meant the cut straight. I like the led light feature, really helps to see cut lines. The saw has the holes to mount on a stand, so it can be converted into a stationary saw. I think it ok for hobby and medium duty projects.

I was really excited about this tool. Unfortunately it arrived without a UK plug. Amazon AI confirmed that no mention of plug type was specified so one would assume that being available to UK would be UK compliant. I am sure it is a grand tool. Build quality looks alright. Functions well but, did need to buy a transformer box.

Best value on Amazon for a quality portaband.. I will admit being a bit miffed when the one i recieved didn't include the 3 built in accessory mounts.. I've seen that mentioned in other reviews.. so i removed the front.. unpowered... wheel and located 2 places where the case is reinforced and cast for holes but not drilled.. I drilled em out and used 1/4 -20 stainless bolts to attach a mount I cut out of 4 inch long piece of 1 1/2" angle.. then welded a 1 inch square tube to the angle.. I didnt have to but I also epoxied the angle on for extra strength since the adapter is now permanent. Hey its a tool! Then i fabricated a mount from an old mitresaw that would accept the 1 inch tube.. see photo. Also hillbillied a vertical table mount out of an old 4x4 post.. Anyway.. great saw for good price.
