Beautiful, heartfelt story of love, bravery, and companionship
I chose to read this before giving it as a gift to a young teenager. Many books concerning WWII are both graphic and laced with profanity. This has neither. It's a beautifully, well written, touching story of the life of a pointer - Judy - and the men she helped survive in WWII. Loved every minute of it - laughed and cried. Highly recommend it.

loved this book
Student, with difficulty reading, loved this book. He doesn't read much other than "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books, but finished this one in a few days. Young Readers Editions are awesome.

A beautiful tribute
I read the adult version some time ago and loved the book. The student version I purchased for my junior high grandson. I am impressed that it gives background info. on the war and principal players. It is a beautiful story or Judy and her relationship w/ Frank and the other men. I heartily recommend it.

Amazing!! Well written
Fabulous!! My (rising) 6th grade son and I read the book. Amazing!! Well written, captures your attn. I loved that it was very accurate and helped depict concentration camps, without being too graphic for my kiddo. Fantastic!!

Gripping True Story of An Unlikely Hero
This is one of the most unusual stories I’ve read. I read it aloud to my husband and he often would say, “is this really non-fiction?” Yes! It is! But it is an amazing tale of war, hardship, terror dovetailing perfectly with love, courage and loyalty that is hard to believe. You will laugh, cry, cheer and grimace as you read this true story of Judy, the pointer, who becomes a Japanese POW. Very interesting side bars of information accompany the story. This young readers edition was an easy but gripping read. Whether you are in Middle School or middle age (or beyond) this book is worth your time for some little known history.

Great book!
Bought this for my 11 year old grandson. I read it first and then him. He loved it! He could retell it so well! Better than me! That’s how interesting it was to him! He did a book report for school on it as well. He’s a great reader and loves books! I will say the first chapter or so for me was a bit hard to get into but after that it got really good.

Be aware two versions
Note before purchasing be aware there are two published versions a young persons read and one for adults giving a more graphic and detailed description. Depends on your reading preferences as to which version the reader may prefer. I have a copy of each as I purchased the young persons version first!!
