Pro SQL Server Internals 1st Edition

From reading the Table of Contents and the reviews for this book, I was fully expecting this to be a nice learning resource for me. What I didn't expect was how quickly it would help me with a real world problem. One of our Developers was having an unexpected result from a trigger they wrote. I had just purchased this book, so I searched it and found some very practical information on triggers. I used that new knowledge to help the Developer rewrite the trigger in a way that fixed the results they were getting. Talk about a fast Return On Investment.I've read advanced books before and even attended a week-long SQL internals class. My experience has been that usually you get a lot of deep information with only an occasional practical tidbit. This book, however, seems to be quite the opposite. It gives a lot of practical knowledge (good examples too) with deeper explanations where helpful. Exactly what I was hoping for when I bought this and I've still been pleasantly surprised. I highly recommend this book...

The book is for mature DBAs and database programmers. It contains a lot of material you will not find in other books. While other books repeating each other, in this one you will find material rather complementary to other sources. As a DBA with 15-year experience I found answers to many questions and doubts collected during the years of my working experience.It is still a lot of interesting things "under the hood". Waiting for the next books of the author :)

Well written and very informative. If you want ,(or need ),to know what is "under the covers", this is the book for you. Answered a lot of questions I had in resolving deadlock error issues we were experiencing.

A great book for the Senior DBA but where's the 2nd Edition in Kindle format?

Easy to read and gives you good understanding on how things work plus valuable tips.

Excellent book. Highly recommended for any developer who already knows SQL language but needs deeper understanding of SQL Server

I came across this book from a recommendation by another database professional. I would recommend it because:a) it is very well written with eloquent examples that are easy to follow;b) it doesn't evangelise buy lays concrete facts about features or situations in which "it depends" is always the best answer;c) I have learnt from it many details and refreshed my memory on many topics that are very useful in my daily job (thoroughly practical knowledge);d) it covers sql server 2014 features that I was unable to find anywhere else.All in all, an excellent book on internals that would serve mature and junior DBAs alike.and I would love to see in every T-SQL developer's shelves.
