Are the pages perforated to tear them out easily?

Accepted Answer

Yes! and they tear out fantastically easily! I folded a page over to crease the perforated line in preparation for gently tugging and tearing and the page just fell away before I could even tug!--kind of almost startled me. The detached edge was smooth and its former attachment almost completely undetectable. As you can probably tell--I was really impressed. On the other hand, the pages stay secure until you fold them over to detach.

Could you use oil pastel on this?

Yes. You can use oil pastels on this. It has a smooth vellum like surface.  So, when overlaying colors , they may blend more than cover each other as layers. This also depends on the pastel you are using.  If they are softer more pigmented oil pastels it will be easier to apply than the harder pastels, which tend to smudge/blend together. When applying color you will need to plan your light and dark areas as well as your cool and warm colors if you want them to be vibrant and pure. If you are an instinctual blender then you will be more flexible to explore this smooth paper. It's a good deal.  The spiral binding is great for flipping fully to the next page. Not to mention the pages tear out so you can scan your artwork, frame it, or throw away. Good luck and hope this helps!

How does this compare to the strathmore mixed media visual journal? will the paper wrinkle/bleed through with water colors?

I have found this paper to be great for watercolor. That's what I use it for- it's my travel watercolor option. I also draw with Sharpie on it, and that doesn't bleed through either. It's pretty stout paper, and doesn't even curl up too much- it does a little- when using watercolors. I hope that helps! I love these books and have filled several.

Does this sketchbook hold watercolor well?

It works pretty well, you need to tape it down if you don't want it to curl though. And putting alot of layers damages the paper.
