An excellent charger that works very well
This charger may be inexpensive but it's actually a really good deal for the price. It provides two charging outputs based on the number of inserted batteries. 1-4 batteries: 500mAh | 5-8: 250mAh If I'm in need of a quicker charge I'll just insert 1-4 and the charging times are half the time of 5-8 batteries. The charging time depends on the capacity of your NiMH batteries. I use 2800mAh AA and 1100mAh AAA EBL high capacity LSD (Low Self Discharge) batteries with this device. I find the output current acceptable and preferable. The higher the current you put into batteries when charging the more damage is done over time and they'll be much hotter during charging - contributing to even more damage. Lower currents, or trickle charging batteries, will allow them to reach their full rated cycle count. While it seems inconvenient to have to wait hours to charge, just remember that it's worth the wait in saved batteries. I'm not sure what the "damaged" battery fix feature does. We don't currently have any "damaged" batteries and the manual states this feature is only for batteries that were deeply discharged beyond the acceptable limits. I guess if this ever happens to us we'll see if that mode actually does anything. This charger heats up a good bit when charging batteries. Keep it on a solid surface to allow the heat to dissipate better. Don't place it on your carpet. Put it on a table or something with good airflow. What I do to compensate for the longer charging times is to have enough batteries on hand that I always have some ready and charged to swap into my devices while I charge the depleted ones. It's common and easy to find LSD (Low Self Discharge) NiMH batteries and I highly recommend people only purchase batteries with low self discharge. For the brand of batteries we use, EBL, we find that the claimed discharge over time is accurate. We use our batteries and swap them often enough that we don't know what that figure would be over very long time frames, but it will vary based on brand and quality. I highly recommend EBL batteries with this charger. They have some of the highest capacities available and a 1,200 cycle count which is above average for their capacity. Well worth the cost and they don't cost much more than cheapo ones. I expect them to last close to the claimed 1,200 cycles, partly thanks to the low charging currents offered by this charger. You can check and measure capacity and charge level with a multi-meter and some electronics knowledge (which I have). Overall this charger is great! Word of caution: don't keep the batteries inserted for long periods of time after they complete charging. A few hours or waiting overnight to take them out isn't a big deal breaker. But don't leave them in their for days or weeks on end. This charger is not designed to handle that and could lead to damage or reduced cycle count. This is also clearly laid out in the manual. My only complaint with this charger is that it heats up quite a bit when charging, especially if charging 8 AA at once. Other than that the smart chip feature appears to be real and works very well.

Flawless for 4 years. Then, failed but replaced for free!
For 4 years, this charger has worked as described - perfectly! Then, suddenly the unit failed. The warranty was only two years. But PowerOwl not only sent a replacement charger but they also sent 8 new AA batteries and sent everything via overnight shipping for NO CHARGE! Boy, I'd buy everything I need from this company if I could. Powerowl, you're the BEST!

Solid charger + excellent customer service
I’ve been using the POWEROWL 8-bay charger for both AA and AAA batteries and it’s been reliable. Independent slots, clear LED indicators, and consistent charging with no issues so far. I also had a situation where I needed to contact their support, and they were quick, professional, and helpful. That made a big difference. Overall happy with the product and the service.

POWEROWL 8-Bay Battery Charger – Simple, Fast, and Works Well
I’ve been using the POWEROWL 8-bay battery charger for a few weeks now, and it’s exactly what I needed—simple, reliable, and easy to set up. It charges both AA and AAA batteries at the same time, which is super convenient since I use them in all sorts of devices like remotes, toys, and flashlights. The charger plugs into a wall outlet with a USB cable (it comes with the adapter), and once it’s connected, you just pop your batteries in and let it go. There are no complicated settings or apps—just plug, charge, repeat. One thing I really like is how quickly it charges them. With my Amazon Basics batteries (the ones I use most), they’re usually ready in about 2 hours. That’s pretty fast compared to other chargers I’ve tried that can take twice as long or more. It also doesn’t overheat, even when charging a full set of batteries at once. The indicator lights help you track the charge level, so you know when each bay is done without having to check the screen all the time.

Excellent option for keeping everything charged at home
A practical, durable, and very easy-to-use charger. Its 8 independent slots allow you to charge AA and AAA batteries simultaneously without any hassle. It feels well-made from high-quality materials. USB charging is fast, and the indicator lights make it easy to check the status of each battery. Compact and highly efficient.

Great Value
Needed to be able to recharge a lot of batteries at once and this works great. Saves a lot of money over having to purchase and dispose of standard batteries constantly.

Defective - did it damage my Eneloops or is it just malfunctioning?
The charger seemed to work at first, although it made the batteries quite toasty at the USB plug end, not quite too hot to hold in my hand, but hotter than is probably good for batteries. I was careful not to mix brands. I’ve been using an Apple brand 12-watt charging adapter which I understand may be a bit slow, but it was typically taking overnight to charge 3-8 AA batteries that were not even completely depleted. Unfortunately, I can’t use a USB-C charging adapter, because I don’t have a USB-C to micro-USB cable, and I don’t want to buy one for this single purpose. I was getting 12-15 hours of use out of the batteries before the voltage drop dimmed the LED light strings I was powering. I don’t know if that charging time is out of spec, but I wish it were clearer in the instructions what kind of charging adapter to use, and the performance that could be expected. The micro-USB jack feels fragile, so I’ve only been unplugging it at the power source end, which isn’t ideal either, because the USB plug still sticking out means it can’t be stored in its original box for safekeeping. (I just realized I could cut a slot in the box for the plug, but there have been other problems; read on.) One of my admittedly old Eneloops kept reading defective so I set it aside. I accepted the slow charging for the time being and the charged batteries seemed to be working fine through the holidays. Today, I come to check on the batteries I left to charge overnight, and all 6 occupied bays are flashing red. According to the instructions sheet, it means the battery is defective, or some other charging fault. I removed the batteries, cut the power to the charger, and re-inserted them after letting it reset. The bays are showing solid red now, so I think the batteries are charging now. It leaves me wondering whether I should retrieve the first “defective” battery and try it again in a different charger. This charger was inexpensive and has good features for the price, even without the ability to charge directly from A/C power, but the unit I have doesn’t seem reliable. My past experience with Powerowl after-sales support was good (coin batteries near impossible to remove from the packaging without power tools), so I’ll definitely let them know about the problem, and if my Eneloops were actually damaged.

Works great
Works great to cahrge batteries and also revive ones that I thought were damaged due to another cahrger giving me a blinking red light during the charging process. Recommend.

Good charger
Owned this for about a year and I really like it. No issues at all in any way with it. Doesn’t overheat. Charges nicely and I like that I don’t need matching pairs. The batteries this company makes seem solid as well!

Nice features, good for the price
I like that there are lights which help indicate any issues with charging/the battery. Green means charged, red means charging, and flashing red means there's a problem with the battery. It is very intuitive and user friendly. As stated, it comes with the charging cable but no adapter. This likely won't be an issue because you can plug it into a standard phone charger base and most people have several of these on hand. One thing I will say is that it seems to take a while to charge. I am new to reusable batteries so I am not sure if it's standard, but a dead battery takes several hours to charge. But again, they really come through with the features. You don't need to worry about over-charging because it automatically stops charging the battery once it is back at full capacity. So you can comfortably leave it charging overnight or while you're out and not have to worry about batteries leaking or exploding. This was a huge selling point for me. I bought this to with the Amazon Basics rechargeable batteries. I bought AAA and AA, both of which fit into the charger thanks to a clever design. Honestly don't have much negative to say! The only improvement I could see is that I wish the unit itself was heavier - it's really light, which is great if you plan on travelling, but I can see it being easily knocked off a table. I may add some grip tape to the bottom to stabilize it.
