NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
ABOUT ME...I'm no flashaholic by any stretch of the imagination and I am not being paid off in any way to write this. My investigation, while looking for a new "decent" flashlight, led me to buying this Nitecore EC4S bundle from Eastshine, which I must admit, is better and more expensive than my needs call for. This is a bad habit of mine.FIRST IMPRESSIONS... At this time, I'm not 100% sure how thrilled I am with it (I don't know if it's my expectations were too high or the bundle is a let-down). I will certainly update this writing as I my opinion developes. While the ads for all Nitecore products stress their durability, I wouldn't want to drop this light on concrete, as I'm afraid it would horribly damage the finish or electronics. This is because this light has got some heft that others may refer to as "a solid feel". Rubbing your hand over the finish (when the batteries aren't installed) gives an almost ceramic tone, making me feel like it would shatter if dropped hard. Let's not find out.The EC4S is NOT a flashlight, it's a f'n "search light" that has enough impressive numbers and features to make the flashlight gurus take note. Most flashaholics know Nitecore is one of the better known flashlight manufacturers out there and that EastShine is supposed to be a top-notch battery manufacturer. I made this assumption by going to the Candlepower forums, not by reading reviews on Amazon or eBay.THE SPECS; I will say one disappointing spec I read is that the EC4S's driver circuit runs on base voltage which eats tiny amounts of power while it's off, so it slowly kills the batteries just sitting there over a long period of time. This base voltage method is one type of design that allows "instant on" as opposed to having to boot it up every time you turn it on. Another disappointing spec, which isn't all that important, but... the 2150 lumens only happens for a short time when turned on. It's all downhill from there. These two factors bounce this light out of the "five star" category for me, thus, most of the reasoning behind my 4 star rating. Please join the Candlepower forums and search for EC4S reviews for complete specs and better information than you'd find from Nitecore itself.CHARGER & BATTERIES; Okay, this is weird... I unbox my EC4S bundle, read all instructions, put both separately-packaged Eastshine batteries into the charger at once and let them charge. One battery is fully charged in 5 minutes. The other takes hours to charge. So I go to work. When I get home that night, it's fully charged. So, just for poops & giggles, I put the first one back into the charger. It takes almost 4 hours to charge to full. WTF? I have no idea what happened there. There's two minor things I don't like about the charger; as a battery is charging, the display always cycles through 3 specs; 1. the battery's nominal voltage, 2. charging voltage in milliamps, 3. the elapsed time the battery has been charging. These 3 specs cycle on the display at a given speed and you cannot lock any particular one in to watch it.... it ALWAYS cycles even when you just want to watch just one. Bummer!Secondly, I couldn't care less about elapsed time. All I care about is Estimated Charging Time. Call me nuts, but I want to know when the battery will be FINISHED charging, not how long I've been waiting for it! Maybe both times would be good?SUMMARY; I feel bad for the 4 star review, but at this time, I'm just not overly thrilled with the price vs. the parameters of the EC4S and the charger. For $140., it should be mind-blowing. Sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but once again, I will update and/or rewrite this review as needed.NOTE TO MANUFACTURERS; Only comment or contact me with resolves for any problems noted. Please DO NOT contact me with offers of any kind of compensation for a more positive review as I find that to be unethical. If you do, I will note it here in this review.UPDATE 7/2016- Did something really cool on Cape Cod during my vacation with the EC4S 2 weeks ago... Okay, ready... Cape Cod is one giant hook that curls inward more and more into the ocean the farther you go. The hotel I stay at is almost at the end where the hook curls the most, so although the hotel isn't at the tip of the Cape, it is at the same lattitude, but is just over 2.5 miles away from the tip with a totally straight line over the bay. There's a lighthouse wuth reflctive paint on the very tip of the cape. This gave me the opportunity to test the EC4S distance-wise. If you hit the lighthouse, it practically glows! All I can say is the EC4S completely lit up the lighthouse which altrnately lit up the tip of Cape Cod at 3AM on July 4th, 2016! I tested a few other good flashlights and two green lasers (which were also quite amazing), but the EC4S was the brightest flashlight by far. I could even see the sand around the lighthouse. Just amazing.

Disappointed!
This flashlight is well made but very disappointed it was not up to the task. I'm the maintenance manager in a plastic manufacturing company and use my flashlight throughout the day and sometimes for long periods. Everything worked fine for three days and then the light would automatically change its brightness from the highest to the lowest and shut off. This was very annoying and most of the time the thing would not work again. I would almost always have to take the battery out and reinsert them. Thinking this was the problem, I then changed the battery for some unprotected cells I had lying around, but the problem still persists. The thread on the battery door is very short and for something that needs to continuously be taken off makes me question its long term durability, for someone else at least! I don't mind a cooler light and some veins and rubber grip would have been a better design thought. Cant use a light if you cant hold it!!!I bought a Fenix and I can now see my investment, its just a better quality light and gets nowhere as hot as the Nitecore, even though the output is similar.

Excellent!!!
First of all, I paid for this flashlight and received NOTHING in return for this review. The seller did ask me in an email if I would review it and he did offer me a discount code on other lights but that was not dependent on me doing a review. I do not really need another flashlight because I have this and the NiteCore P12 (also from Eastshine) as well as many other brands. My wife is getting annoyed with how many are laying around the house. I will say that the NiteCore TM26GT package deal does intrigue me but, even with discount still a little more than I want to spend on a toy that I cannot easily fit in my pocket. I am sure the price is more than fair if you need that kind of power. This light is very well made and is among the best I have used, right there with SureFire in the quality of the build and equal or better than any other in the 2K lumen range at half the price or less. When you consider what you get for the price, the EC4S rises to the top. Please read the last part of this review on its usefulness as a defensive device and the opinion of some police officers that were using SureFire lights.I will not go into its different functions because that is well advertised and others have videos. I will say that the videos really do not do it justice because the video recording on phones or other recorders are made to adjust to lighting conditions. This tends to dampen things so you are not able to fully experience how bright this puppy is. I do a lot of mountain biking, often at night and I am a little bit of a equipment snob so I have some top of the line headlamps that cost many hundreds of dollars. This light is every bit as bright as any 2K lamps and its coverage area is massive for its size. It is important that anyone buying this light realize this is a FLOOD LIGHT, not a light you can focus down to a small area. It is literally like the high-beam on a car. The coverage is well distributed so everything is even, no hot spots that I can see. You can look at the reflector on it and see it is "rough" in appearance so that it reflects the light at many many small angles and that results in very even coverage. The batteries and charger have worked very well. It does its job and the batteries seem like they are better quality than many others I have used. I fully charged them one time before use and have not had to charge it again so my experience with charger is limited. I mostly use this for evening hikes or runs with my dogs to keep an eye out for skunks, after a couple bad experiences. I am not sure on time because I use the second lowest level most of the time and only use the brightest when I need to light up a large field or wooded area when I let dogs of the leash. I would assume the run time averages they give are accurate. One last thing, if you are in the dark and this light is turned on full blast into your face it literally feels like you got punched in the eyeballs. This light is an excellent "defensive" weapon and as one of the other comments mentioned, it is very well built and could put a hurting on someone if you need to hit them with it. This makes the light a great choice to use if you fell the need for a first line defense before you have to move to something more lethal. I actually scarred the crap out of a group of police officers checking the woods for someone that broke into cars in the area. I quickly pointed it down and told them it was a flashlight and I was not armed. One of the officers asked me "what the heck is that light?" because he was still dazed and could not focus his eyes. I told him and they all agreed that they will see if they can order them for foot search. That should tell you something, they were all carrying SureFire lights, very good quality but not nearly as powerful.

Avoid this seller. Will Zhi
Ordered a rechargeable flashlight kit. Only the flashlight arrived. Thought I'd made a mistake. Went to Radio Shack and purchased 2 batteries and a charger. Charged the batteries, placed in the flashlight and it doesn't work. Tried to return. He refunded me for the batteries and the charger. Thinks he's done. So now I have a flashlight that doesn't work and 2 batteries and a charger that I don't need. This guy's either a complete moron or he thinks I am. After many e-mails, crickets! My advice to anyone out there is to avoid seller Will Zhi. Have a good day, Jim P.S. if there was a rating below one star Mr. Zhi would have earned it
