Great Book! Must Buy!
I was wondering after reading reviews of others on here whether I had made the right choice in purchasing this book since I found a lot of mixed reviews. I had never embroidered before and was looking for easy to follow directions and patterns to get started that were not the usual craft store finds. I got every penny worth buying this book! My first thought opening the box was that the book is very well constructed with a sprial bound spine. Also the pockets inside the book are great for storing the patterns after you cut them since each pattern can give you up to 9 uses. The directions are fun to read with her humor twisted in and very easy to follow, which you don't always find in a book. I found the patterns ironed on with great ease. I had my first project finished in one evening and had a great time. Some of the patterns in the book are from the web site and others are different and simpler to follow which is great for a beginner like me. I will have many hours of fun learning how to fine tune my new found hobby compliments of Jenny Hart! Hope you all find this helpful and inspiring to start your new hobby with Subliome Stitching!

A great sequel to the Stitch-It kit!
I previously bought the Stitch-It kit, which I'd probably recommend first if you've never done any embroidery. If you have, this is a great book to own. The how-to is short and simple but useful, and there are literally hundreds of patterns, including cats, dogs, letters, words, shoes, make up, rocket ships, baby faces, and more that I can't remember now. Yes, the drawings are a bit simple, but that's part of their charm. Don't forget they can be further embellished! I love that there are so many, I can always find a pattern to embroider! I am giving it four stars rather than five because I was hoping for a more comprehensive section on embroidery stitches. If you want a lot of basic iron-on patterns with some additional info on embroidery stitches, this is a great book to buy.

lives up to its title
This is the rare craft book that would please both the absolute beginner and the confident stitcher. Jenny Hart writes great, simple directions, almost as good as if she were sitting next to you on the couch, and she encourages the novice to get going quickly. Her fun, witty patterns offer something for everybody: alphabets, flowers for the more traditional readers (or those with traditionalists on their gift list), dancers lifting their flowing skirts, and plenty of other tongue-in-cheek images. I've read the reviews about the "non-edgy" patterns and this is probably true, but it doesn't take too much imagination to add whatever spin you want (either by where and how you place the patterns, or how you fill them, for two suggestions). The patterns are deliberately shy of detail to allow you to add your own. This would be a perfect present for a stitcher or even someone who just likes crafting in general. I bought the book for myself (I'm a stitcher), and started making something an hour later. And I have to agree with the previous reviewer's comments about the design -- completely user-friendly.

Great patterns!
Ignore the negative reviews on this book unless you are an artist and can whip up cute pictures of things to embroidery without a thought. This book is easy to read and has great simple instructions on embroidery. Easy enough for a beginner. And I love the patterns she includes. They are cute, fresh, modern, and adorable. I think they will please most everyone. And it is nice that several sizes of each are included since I would rather just trace or iron than have to scan and print a new size.I won't iron these on but rather trace them with a lightbox. No reason other than I don't want to cut them out of the book so they won't get lost (even though there is a nifty pocket provided for them).I love the cute food related ones (cupcake, fruit, veggies, cake, etc.) and it is wonderful there are some boyish ones like rockets and dogs.I love this book and it is worth every cent!

Disapointed
The book is very well made. A nice spiral binding and two pockets for used transfers. The instruction section of the book is short, but easy to follow. I have done some sewing but no embroidery and I didn't have any problems getting started on some basic stitchsThe transfers section of the book is the majority of it. Actually when I pulled the book out of the box I was very excited, I thought I would have tons of neat designs to embroider. :(The Sublime stitching website has a lot of awesome, unique and complex designs but the ones in this book are basic at best. Not only are the transfers basic, I don't think they are too stylish. I could draw a little cherry and stem that had more flair. Then it has 2-4 different sizes of each transfer. This is just not needed in todays day and age these resizing can be done quickly with a photocopier or home printer/scanner. I would say save your money and get some transfer paper and use your home printer or books to trace your own patterns. Also the author warns several times that these transfers may not wash off. Which might be a precaution against the few times the transfer reacts with certain types of fabric. I haven't used my transfers yet because I'm pretty sure I want to return this item.

Fun and Inspiring!
I saw this book on the Kindle Daily Deals and couldn’t resist! I used to embroider when I was younger, but haven’t for many years. This book includes simple instructions for the basic stitches and includes a couple that were new to me. The kindle version includes website information to download all of the patterns and instructions for how to create the transfers. I personally like having the book on Kindle as I can easily view it on my iPad while working on stitching. If you want the actual transfers, then purchase the printed version. I found the writing clear, entertaining and inspiring. I’m really excited to get back to an old hobby I used to enjoy so much!

Disapointing
Ok for beginners, BUT...there are better, e.g. Aimee Ray Doodle Stitching transfer Pack. I got my Sublime Stitching from a seller for £4 (imo not even worth that) and if I could have looked at it first I would not have bothered, do not pay full price for it. " Hundreds of Hip embroidery patterns" is an over statement. The designs are very basic, and there are actually only 84 different designs, 4 alphabets and 5 words using those alphabets. It can get away with saying hundreds of designs because each of those 84 designs are repeated several times, but just made smaller or flipped. So really a bit of a cop out way of increasing the number. Also, as said, the designs are very basic and could easily be sourced on line. Very disappointing for a Jenny Hart book, I have another Jenny Hart book and after looking at her website was excited to get books of her patterns....but I now feel that she keeps the best patterns to sell as pdfs on her site and puts only the basic in the books. Needless to say i won't be buying any more of her books. 2 stars because if you are an absolute beginner, can get it for a very low price it will teach you the stitches you need to open up the world of embroidery to you.

Stitching Yes! Sublime, Maybe?
Personally I was pleasantly surprised with this book which contains loads of contemporary pattern transfers and information regarding embroidery stitches, floss etc.My mum, who's more of a traditional pattern worker wasn't impressed as she felt there was nothing complex in this book. Personally I think once the outline's there the rest is down to the imagination! This is a great little book for the modern embroidery fan...

Great for beginners who want something different
Love love love this. I'm a keen craft girlie, but needle work was new to me. This book is great for beginners as has all the basic stitches and lists of equipment to get. The patterns are really great for anyone who likes a break from the norm.... cocktail glasses, tattoo scrolls, cupcakes and cute retro images. Also didnt realise which is a total bonus, is the patterns as reusuable up to 10 tens each, bargain !Handy little pocket in cover too to keep hold of stray bits

A lovely book - plenty of inspiration
This book contains loads of iron-on embroidery transfers in the cutest designs. The majority of the stitching will be done in stem stitch or back stitch with a few French knots thrown in for good measure, though perhaps more skilled needle men and woman will be more adventurous than me!It is a fun book and I have been pleased with the results of the things I have made from it. Traditional embellishments for pillowcases, napkins, aprons and collars, but with a definite modern touch. This is not a compendium of complicated embroidery stitches rather a cool way to add touches of an ancient craft to your surroundings. Enjoy!
