WOW! What a Great Game!
I've been a gamer for a long long time. For decades I was a PC gamer, and I still am to an extent. My wonderful, beautiful, and thoughtful wife gave me a PSP last year for my birthday. Never having used or played any of the consoles, I was unfamiliar with the controls, but I liked the idea of the portability of the PSP. I played the two Tomb Raider games that are available, and enjoyed them enough. I also played Indiana Jones - Staff of Kings, and liked that as well. But after that I found myself starving for something to play, and raided my sons room on a clean up spree. He had Untold Legends, so I played it. I loved that game a lot, it was right up my alley, and nice and long so it took forever to play through. Upon completing that game twice, once as a knight and once as a druid, I again found myself starving for something good to play. So I started some research, and came across God of War with all of its outstanding reviews. As long as the character control was totally analog stick I was good to go.I have just completed my first run through this great game. WOW, the only thing I can say is that all of the positive reviews were dead on. Outstanding graphics, breathtaking panoramas, perfect art work, superb music score, outstanding sound affects, and absolutely perfect character control and camera angles & control. The folks at Edios should take a lesson on the character control and camera angles & control from these developers. I'm not going to go into great detail here as there is already enough of that on the net. I'm just going to say that I've not had more enjoyment out of playing a game before, and it deserves to be said so all can see. I was taken in by all of the sensual goodies built perfectly into this game. The scenes, artwork, sounds, play action, all just fit together so perfectly. Game play was challenging, yet forgiving where it needed to be. The designers didn't decide to play games and make already difficult areas and actions that much harder with bad controls, and camera angles. If your not familiar with these type of console controls, play on Easy mode first and get used to them. I'm still rusty and found myself hitting incorrect buttons during most of the mini-games. I will improve with time. The only real challenge for me was the final boss fight. Naturally its supposed to be tough, but my inability to work the controls well played against me for a while. Eventually, I got it, obviously, and was able to beat the game. One thing that I absolutely LOVED about this game besides the outstanding character control, and camera angles was the fact that if you died during a difficult part, instead of taking you back to the last save point, it took you back to your last checkpoint during that event. So for example, if you were doing the last boss fight and got to the point like I did where your half way through and died, when you restarted, you were at the beginning of that particular part of the boss battle, you didn't have to go back and start from the beginning. An excellent way to design the game. Thank You!Of course the game has more playability as once you beat it on any of the lower difficulty levels, you unlock God mode and that gives you three more levels again to play, plus you start unlocking challenges which are sort of mini-levels. I cannot wait to get back into the fray on the next levels and see how I do.

Full GOW experience in a handheld
I just recently re-discovered the God of War games (yeah, took me a while I know) Just like my title reads, this game has successfully captured the full God of War experience on the psp with nothing sacrificed. I was very amazed by the graphic quality of it which, at least to an untrained eye like mine, look just as good and at times even better than the ps2 counterparts. The controls are very dynamic and it's a fantastic adaptation of the dynamism the console versions have. The story is fantastic and overall, you're in for a ton of fun. If you have not tried any GOW game before, this would be the perfect one to start with, as it is chronologically the first one in the saga and the gameplay difficulty at normal level is not frustrating at all. I know it's an old game by now but it is worth playing. When you're done with this one you will definitely want to try Ghost of Sparta.

definitely one of the better psp games
if you have played the previous god of war games, this is not one you should miss. there are a couple things missing, like a lack of magic abilities and you will be using your blades of chaos alot, but overall the gameplay and story that god of war is so well known for will keep you entertained. the story is a prequel to the first god of war, and there is lots of bloody goodness to be had. the controls are take care of quite well. Rolling is hard to get used to, but once you get the feel for the controls, you will be rolling around just as easily as if you had the control stick. Definitely get it if you can find a used copy or if you rent games, and consider buying it new for a good price.

A Good Game For The System
As someone who is trying to build up my PSP collection, I knew the God of War games on it were definitely some go-to choices. Chains of Olympus is an overall solid game, and feels similar to the first two ges on the PS2. My biggest complaint is how short the game is, as it's beatable within just a handful of hours, so I recommend buying one of the cheaper copies of it. Aside from that, it's great for PSP owners, and fans of the series.

The PSP's Bright Spot
If God of War is known for anything, its the graphic brutality (and the sex mini-game in each entry, but that's for another time). The two entries for the PS2 and GoW III for the PS3 are known for a unbelievable story of redemption and how NOT to piss off a spartan. Especially a spartan that has anger management problems. Anyway, how about this PSP installment? Is it any good? Does it live up to the GoW name? Yes. To all. Visually, its one of the best looking PSP games out there. The story takes place before the original GoW and its an interesting take on a part of Kratos's past. It really doesn't tie into the "I'm going to kill Ares/Zeus" story of the main console titles, but it is still excellently done. The graphic quality of Kratos swinging the Blades of Athena at all the undead foes, and the button mini-game executions is just as satisfying as any GoW game. My only gripe is the stick. As your trying to traverse the world, it can be a great hindrance. If your a die hard gamer/GoW/Kratos fan, this is a no-brainer buy.

one of the best games on the psp
This was a great game. At first i had second thoughts about the game cuz i didnt think i wud like it. So i decided to take a chance and buy the game. Man was i impressed. the graphics, the gameplay, and control was flawless. Even though the game was hard, I really enjoyed the boss battles. The only problem i had with the game is that it was too short. I would get into the game and before i knew it the game was over. I recommend this game to anyone who likes the god of war series. Overall i give this game 5 stars.
