One issue that you must be aware of however is that you should NOT try shifting these out of the box before you apply tension on the cable to resist the shifter in the same way your derailleur would. That is because without tension, the cable can get jammed up inside the mechanism and cannot be freed unless you disassemble it ,which can be a dicey procedure unless you are very careful.
