Review: Works great with Ready Seal Wood Stain - I was tired of always staining the deck by hand, especially the lattice, railing and balusters. I decided to try out a spray gun. Researched and researched and this one came back as what I decided the best option for performance and cost. I used the sprayer with Ready Seal Pecan wood stain with sprayer set on "light material flow" and air power "level 2".. I couldn't be happier with the results. My deck is 18' x22' and 14' off the ground. Lattice covers the sides all the way to the ground. I stained the outside of lattice only (roughly 800 sq. feet of lattice) Pros - Made staining the deck fun...well almost - Much faster than painting by hand. - Balusters and lattice were extremely simple. These are normally the worst parts of staining the deck. Cons - Overspray - Yes there is some overspray. I was prepared for this. I bought a bunch of cheap plastic tarps from walmart and taped them to side of house. Total cost of tape and plastic tarps about $15. - Remove paint cup - Removing the paint cup is difficult, especially once covered in paint. tried oil wrench and many other tools. Found easiest way to remove simply to place sprayer on ground, hold paint cup firmly between shoes and twist the top with my hands. Neutral -Weight - Yes the gun is heavy, but certainly manageable. Weight is mostly due to the large 1.5 quart paint cup. A smaller cup would make it lighter, but you would have to fill it that much more often. - Spray gun will splatter a bit the first second you squeeze the trigger, but the Ready Seal does not show any of these drips . It just soaks in evenly as it dries. - Paint Usage - Even with the overspray I found the spray gun to not use much more stain than when I have used a brush and roller in the past. I used 5 gallons to completely cover my large deck, lattice and railings as described above. Although not absolutely necessary, I did put a second coat on a few days later using an additional 4 gallons. - Cleanup - Cleanup consisted of running a quart of mineral spirits through the gun and taking a few parts off the nozzle. Fairly easy. Time to cleanup was probably no longer than cleaning brushes and roller. I highly recommend the sprayer. I debated for weeks before deciding to go this route instead of just staining deck by hand again. This was a no brainer $120 investment for the amount of time it saved.
Review: Huge Time and Money Saver - I LOVE this thing. I purchased it because I wanted a quick and easy way to paid the cornhole boards I've been making for friends. I hate painting. It's easily the worst part of any project. The nice thing about this Flexio 590 is that I can paint one side of 4 boards in about 5 minutes. If you consider the 3 coats I typically add to the boards that comes out to about 15 minutes paint time, 15 minutes setup time, and about 30 minutes in cleanup. That saves me a TON of time. Before I was using rollers or spray paint (which is expensive!). Those tools would take me about 15 minutes per board to paint and about the same 30-45 minutes of setup and cleanup. That means that this tool saves me over 4 hours of labor in the total process of painting 2 sets of Cornhole boards. So, you might wonder if there's any other advantage other than the time savings. Yes, there is. Pros: 1. Saves you tons of time when painting 2. Once you learn how to hold and use it, it will give you a consistent even finish that's really nice 3. If you would typically use spray paint to get the results you want, this product will give you the same finish for MUCH less money 4. Paint goes a LOT further than you might think. It took me several times to realize that I'm only using about half what I put in the bucket 5. Clean-up with Mineral Spirits is very quick and easy (takes a few times to get quick at this) Cons: 1. You actually need to clean it when you're done using it 2. You need to make sure to tape off or cover a large area for overspray 3. You have to start each spray either into a bucket or onto cardboard to avoid specs on the finish Overall I really like the Wagner Flexio 590. I purchased this instead of the cheaper version because I plan to use it for stain on some other projects in the future. I have not done that yet, so I will update the review once I do to tell you how it went. Also, I imagine that lots of people would want to use this for interior painting. I have no idea what that would be like, but I'm sure it's possible to also get a terrific result.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the difference between the Flexio 570 and the Flexio 590?**
A: The essential difference is that the 570 has two speed settings and the 590 has an adjustable dial for additional speeds.

**Q: will this spray latex primer (kils) ... how much thinning req .. will work okay**
A: Yes it will spray primer. I did not have to thin it at all. I did not use Kilz, I used Zinser 123 with the fine mist application jar. I used 2 coats, but that is just me, I wanted every thing to be covered. Then I used latex paint. I did not need to thin it out but I added Flotrol so the paint would take longer to dry, which makes for a very even application. I used it on a vanity, draws, and doors. I am planning on painting my kitchen cabinets next. It is an extremely good sprayer and I tried several.

**Q: I just used my sprayer for the first time. I cannot seem to unscrew the container off of the system so I can clean/refill it. What am I doing wrong?**
A: My experience on this has been that it is a very tight fit between the paint cup and the paint head. it is not easy to grab the bottom of the cup, it's so very smooth. It does have flat ridges but it still is very tight hard to grip. I suggest you remove the powerhead and then with the paint cup between your feet, turn the paint head counterclockwise, you will have a better grip with your feet if its that tight. .When you get the paint head off, double check to see that you don't have paint up on the treads inside and out. You may want to put a light coating of Vaseline on the threads inside and out, then screw it on and off a couple of times to spread the vaseline. This may help.

**Q: can it use exterior latex paint**
A: Yes, you can use any oil or latex based paint, primer, or stain. It just requires extensive cleaning when finished to maintain functionality. This sprayer is designed to use latex paint WITHOUT thinning regardless of what people who have not read the manual say. If you have "globiness" issues, it's an easy fix: call the troubleshooting number and they will walk you through the steps to correct it. There is a piece in the nozzle that can be out of place upon purchase and its a simple matter of placing it in its proper place. Once it is corrected, the sprayer functions perfectly.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Produced a great spray finish but did require some help getting there...
*by S***B on January 14, 2018*

The short: Produced a great spray finish but did require some help getting there... I purchased this sprayer to tackle some interior remodeling jobs: paint new baseboard and door casings prior to installation, paint 6 interior doors, paint 3 bifolds. My first use was with Behr Premium Semi-Gloss Enamel in ultra white. I followed the directions that advise "Do not thin latex paint except in extreme scenarios" and set out to paint my new baseboards and casings. The sprayer simply could not do it. I tried every variety of settings possible, high air, low volume, low air, high volume, everywhere in between. The sprayer would just shoot out huge globs of paint that would never qualify for any sort of painting. I reverted back to a brush for the trim pieces, cleaned the gun, and set out to do some more research on HVLP. Next up was the interior doors - My research led me to purchasing cone strainers for filling the paint container to keep out any foreign material from the gun. As this was a finish coat, I added a generous dose of 'Flood' paint leveler. I add 'Flood' (bought at the orange box) any time I am doing finish trim work to help create a level coat. And finally - I mixed in warm, clean water right into the gun's paint container along with my semi-gloss enamel and Flood. I used my paint mixing screwgun attachment and mixed this up thoroughly until I had a very thin mixture. The instructions advise that you should not have to thin out latex paints however reality showed otherwise after my first try with the trim. I set up my doors vertically and began spraying. After an initial test on some scrap wood I had the gun working great! Because I was spraying latex paint, I kept the air flow very high. Also as it was thicker paint (even after the Flood and water), I kept the paint flow as low as I could get the adjustment screw set without falling out. I decided multiple thin coats was far more ideal than a clumpy finish. The results were incredible! The gun produced a perfect spray finish on all my doors. I sprayed each side 3 times, alternating spray directions as they were raised panel doors. I waiting for the coats to dry, flipped the doors, and did the same on the other side. One minor note; while waiting for coats to dry I did have to refill, remix (add water), and re-stir the gun's paint container. I also had to get it flushed clean in between coats so the latex paint drying in the gun's passages wouldn't shoot out and ruin my finish. Summary: Buy strainers for filling the paint container Add some 'Flood' or similar leveler Add water to particularly thick latex paints like trim/door enamel Cover EVERYTHING in the room you are spraying, unless you want atomized paint on it (I built a spray room in the garage by hanging plastic sheeting from the ceiling to the floor) Use a good quality respirator while spraying, not a cheap-o doctors mask type, a real filtering 3M cartridge respirator
