I arranged a burn test and a microscopy: the shirt made of merino wool + cotton fibers (in lesser degree). I'd bet 95% merino + 5% cotton. I haven't yet put these to use on the backpacking trip I purchased them for, but you'll see my initial reaction and expectations for them below. I bought this along with Elementex Merino Wool leggings so I used mostly the same review as I used for that product. I am not a robot!Quality: I was skeptical about buying wool. Everyone knows wool keeps you warm best, and is the most ideal fabric for physical exertion in cold climates. These leggings feel solidly crafted. If you're concerned about the relatively low price, don't be. In fact, after looking at other wool leggings at REI, I prefer the Elementex construction. The top is solid construction.Feeling: It's pretty soft. Putting it on the first time, the elbows were the tiniest bit scratchy, but it's not a problem and I expect it to go away with the first wash. The top doesn't hug your body like the leggings, but does fit my fit figure and isn't baggy. The sleeves have extra length in case your arms are longer. Overall, it fits like a thin sweater.Takeaway: all of the other products I looked at were no less than $60, and at REI other wool base layers are no less than $90. I was worried about buying Elementex because there were no reviews, no sizes (see photos), and they were so much cheaper, but these did not let me down and I expect them to do very well.Sizing: Elementex doesn't include sizes on Amazon so I included the chart which came in the box. After one month, it is holding up very well. Have machine washed it in cold, and hung dry and it has kept its size. It is soft and warm. A healthy, breathable fiber worth every penny. The waist is done of very high quality, wide and not scrunched, rather a fine hold within the material.
