Practical and not condescending
I liked this book more than other books because it isn't condescending or self-congratulatory. It just really pragmatic and science based, and genuinely talks about moderation. To me, it's different from other books that generally address people who drink heavily every night, or people who drink because of an emotional or behavioral issue that they've repressed. Conversely, while "This Naked Mind" by Annie Grace is really well rated, I couldn't get past one chapter before turning off the audiobook. It was just so unbelievably self congratulatory; written for people who drank every night because of social issues, and proclaimed to make you 'not want to drink' and 'realize how much drinking was taking away from your life'. The author used to drink a bottle of wine every night and black out. Some people just drink on weekends because they like drinking, but need help managing the amount. I find this book really useful for people like that.

A must have for mental health and recovery professionals. Have adapted it for group sessions. Be aware that lending it out can create an awkward "Can I have the book back? situation. Anything from Bill Miller will incorporate a motivation interviewing approach which is helpful in recovery assistance.

Great book so far
I haven't finished yet but I like the way the book let you decide what you are and what you are going to do about it. They are careful to not be judgmental and use labels like alcoholic and drinking problem. I personally know that I drink too much but I don't want to completely quit. I think this could be a tool or at least a beginning of change for those like me who really enjoys drinking but have to slow down a quit bit.

Its a self help workbook, interesting and thought provoking. You still need will power. Good but dont get it unless you are seriously going to give the programme a go.
