Getting to the Core of Writing: Essential Lessons for Every First Grade Student

This is an amazing book of resources that can be used to help students with writing. The CD has all of the blackline masters which makes copying off what you want simple. The lessons will be easy to teach yet great for kids. The year long plans and connections to the CCSS makes this a fabulous addition to anyone wanting to use quality tools that support Writer's Workshop.

I have searched for a good writing book for first grade for a few years now. This is the best one I've ever seen! It starts slowly and very basic to ensure students thoroughly understand how a writing workshop should work. The others in my grade level liked it so much that they are buying copies of their own. :)

Lessons jump around a lot and is kind of confusing. Overall it is a good resource.

Great resource for teachers, but not quite what I wanted. Can anyone reccomend a workbook to practice writing skills?

Each lesson lists possible mentor texts--very common picture books you probably have in your classroom or are easily available at your school or public library. The CD has all the resources you'll ever need! It is a complete handbook!

Perfect and simple to implement right away. All that & aligned with CCSS! Can't wait to begin the year with this next year. A great companion to Lucy Calkins series.

This book is filled with many different writing mini-lessons that can be used when teaching first grade writing. Shell Education has many great resources for teachers.

This is a perfect get the kids writing book. If writing isn't your strong suit this book will make teaching writing the easiest topic to teach every day.
