My Side of the Mountain Trilogy (My Side of the Mountain / On the Far Side of the Mountain / Frightful's Mountain)

I was searching for a favorite book from my childhood. I found instead the ENTIRE TRILOGY, hard bound and while obviously very loved, also very well cared for. Beyond my wildest dreams!

My side of the Mountain was a favorite when I was a very young man. I dreamed of living like the boy in the book. I recently discovered the author had written two more books, so I bought the trilogy. Rereading the first one was a joy. The second is a little "slow" but the third was a pleasure to read.

I am now a 63 year old, male that grew up in the country where I can relate to eating a lot of the wild food mentioned in the first book. I first read My Side of the Mountain when I was about 12 years old or maybe younger and thought it was the best book I had ever read at this stage in my life. Never forgot this book, and was thinking about it one night and decided to look on Amazon for it and was amazed it is still in print. Didn't know about the other two books, sequels, so ordered the Trilogy. Not disappointed. All were good although the last one took away from the reality of the first two. I could actually feel myself in the first book. Love it.

I read this book for the first time when I was about 8 years old, and I never forgot some of the stuff I read in it. I think this book had a lot to do with my love of the outdoors. It is amazing how many campcraft/woods lore tips are in this book. I am now 55 years old and I am reading this trilogy again. When I was young, it seemed like a huge book. I remember this because it was one of the very first "big" books that I read. Now, I started reading the first book last night when I went to bed and I'm already 75% of the way through it. It's going too fast!!! Parents, give this book to your kids/grandkids. They will love it!

I remember reading this book when I was in the fifth grade. Recently, i was watching those survival reality tv shows and remember about this story. I want to take my son camping and started reading him these stories before bed and it has just sparked his interest in the wilderness. It's a very easy read and great style for both an entertainment and educational level. I would not consider it an actual survival guide but there definitely are a lot of useful information if you find yourself having to scoure for shelter or food.

Fantastic young adventure story. My 8-year old grandson loves being read to about Frightful.

I am terribly excited by this because I was home one day with the 8 year old and I had gotten him this (because it was one of my favorite books from my childhood, and the only one with a male hero) so we started to read it together but put it away for a while.Well... after he was finished having Harry Potter read to him (the series) and his mom was trying to get him to read some things independently she walks into his room one day and he was about three chapters into the book! So he read the WHOLE thing - the first book he read on his own!! One of the cuter parts was that as he was reading it he kept trying to get his mom to use the recipes in the book :) (that, and he kept referring to the book as "the trilogy".)Really a great book to have around for when a boy is ready to read.PS. not that it isn't also a good book for girls, but there are many other good books out there written with young female heroines for that age range (I would recommend the Westing Game and The mixed up files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler) whereas there is a very limited selection of books that are interesting and well written with young male heros.

My son loves this book !!! So much so that we bought this again after his brother lost the first copy. Then we got Kindles and we bought it again ! Needless to say, he REALLY wants to see a Peregrine Falcon now and I'm trying to find a club where he can actually see one and possibly hold one. The 2 sequels for this book are not on the kindle yet (not that I've seen anyway). I hope those sequels will be on the kindle soon.

Have remembered this book from childhood day's which is many moons ago and as it's now in a 3 book series it's a great read and one I shall keep forever. Proper story book not like most of the rubbish these days.
