What’s the difference in quality between this cintiq “pro” at 24’ vs. the cintiq 22? is it worth the price difference?

Aside from the obvious 2" diagonal,
4K vs 1080p resolution, and consequent pixel density,
The thinness between the pixels and the drawing surface, also known as parallax, 
10bpc pre-calibrated vs 8bpc color depth,
Slightly brighter display,
Faster pixel response time,
Slightly broader color gamut,
Thunderbolt support, if you prefer a single USB-C connector,
and 2yr warranty in the US.

That's all I could find to differentiate the two. It's up to you to determine if the significant price delta is worth the features, of course. Oh also if you opt to pay $500 more for multi-touch functionality, that's also an option.

Thank you for the question.  The main differences between the 2018 and 2021 version of the Cintiq Pro 16 are: Adding HDMI port,Physical Expresskeys and Touch on/off switch, VESA mount, Adding HDMI cable and USB-C to A cable and Improved touch quality just to name a few.

for this price, why does this need to be connected to a computer?

Thank you for the question.  THe Cintiq Pro 24 is a graphics tablet that uses the computer to display the software being used so you are able to draw on it.
