SMALLRIG Super Clamp for Action Camera for GoPro, for DJI for Insta360, Multi-functional Camera Mount, Ballhead Clamp for Light, Microphone, Project, Rod and Cross Bar- 2164

I purchased this item to add more versatile camera angles when making mountain biking videos. I predominantly use GoPro cameras for these films, mainly because they are smaller and lighter to carry than my regular film making kit. A full size tripod would be out of the question, I carry mini-tripods which are useful for close to the ground shots but rely on handy fences or tree stumps for higher shots. I have tried the well known range of bendy tripods but after having three snap, I gave them up. This multi-function ballhead is phenomenal, it clamps very firmly, the single handed adjustment makes getting the right camera angle a breeze. I have even rode down trails with it clamped to my mountain bike and had useable footage from a GoPro 7 with stabilisation. Like all Smallrig kit, the sturdiness and weight are indicators of quality equipment, even the packaging is a cut above.

The small rig clamp has many features and clamping options. However fine adjustments is only possible in discrete steps and not fluently. Under normal condition not a problem but when you need a small section of a view to be in the centre of the video camera it is difficult to adjust. But after some time moving it around it works. I can recommend it for its robustness and quality build.

Nicely made, well finished, solid, screws turn well. Seems to be a well made piece of kit. Flexibility with different sized screw fittings also helps so you can use it with 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch. Very pleased - will be using with a small MP4 camcorder to record various performances and this will allow the camera to be installed in places where Tripods are not going to fit.

I'm using this outdoors for the most part to capture video when fishing or to take stills of fish caught. Saves getting slime all over the camera. I clamp it to my rod tripod or sand spike but I'd imagine it is flexible enough to be clamped to other objects. The steel clamping screws and ball joints will rust if not cared for so if used outdoors so give them a smear of grease or oil. As I sea fish, it gets a hard life. It won't hold a DSLR plus any kind of zoom lens unless you are careful how you balance out the weight. I use it with a waterproof Fuji compact or a fixed lens compact. It might work with a mirror-less digital with a short prime lens.

I've bought this to enable me to add my Atomos Screen record monitor to my gimble arm of my Steadicam rig. The price was reduced, so it made sense to buy it at a knockdown price, I've bought cheaper items of the same design, but found they don't last or have the same build quality as a smallrig product. Not used it yet, but I'm not worried it won't serve me well.

Well engineered and easy to tighten. The jointed arm gives extra usability options - I have several and will buy more. They are very useful to have a round - mounting lights, small cameras etc.

Looks sturdily built and looks good. Used to secure 360 degree camera to my cars roof rail using the cameras tripod mounting option. Works great.

Bought two. - First one is ok-ish, but awkward to get into the position I actually wanted and a lot of it was so stiff I couldn't tighten or loosen it without taking it down first. - Second one is absolutely awful. One of the balls sits practically loose even when as tight as I could get it. To even loosen it out of the box I had to use another clamp to get some leverage, and had to do the same to get it tight again. I tried mounting something with it and it just flops over. It is literally useless and I'm going back to using a £5 hunk of plastic I got half a decade ago. Do not bother. You might get a barely passable clamp, or you might get something literally useless.

This review is for the "SmallRig Multi-Functional Ballhead Clamp Double Ball Adapter with Bottom Clamp - 2164". This is a nice sturdy clamp for photography (or other) uses. As can be told from the Amazon photos, the crab claw, tightening screw and handle, and balls in the arm are metal. But to my surprise, the arm itself is metal (looks to be die-cast), and the knob to tighten the arm also appears to be metal as well. The clamp, arm, and mount all seem to be of good quality and should last for quite a long time (only time will tell on this). It clamps down nicely to both wood boards and to round pipes, although I suspect the maximum diameter round pipe it will hold onto is smaller than the maximum size flat board it will hold onto. But for clamping onto tripod legs/arms or onto bike frames/handlebars it should work very well, and be quite secure. I have it clamped onto a board at the moment holding a Nikon SB-600 flash unit and it is doing a proper job of holding up the flash unit. All in all I am pleased with the clamp and am happy with the purchase. There are two different sizes shown by the manufacturer on the listing for the maximum opening distance of the clamp. The second attached photo shows the clamp at maximum opening, next to a ruler. Between the rubber pads the clamp opens a maximum of 2 1/8in, which equates to 53.975mm of width.

You don't know it yet but you need a dozen of these in your kit. Thank me later. Nothing negative to say about these, like most Smallrig products. Sturdy, well designed, strong hold, good range (size of the bite)
