A heavyweight box set, containing Suede's five studio albums from their original incarnation, plus the two post-reformation albums, issued on Warners in 2013 and 2016. 254. Kings of glam (and reissues!) present yet another kingly collectible item
The latest instalment in the series of retrospective releases that followed the group's 2010 live reunion, "Studio albums 93-16" gathers Suede's 7 studio albums (recent album "The blue hour" is not included). Basically, this is a limited coloured vinyl version of their highly collectible 2013 vinyl box set. Similar to that, it features the tracklists of the original LPs (thus, no B-Sides or extra tracks), now presented in coloured vinyl. Some may argue that only black vinyl can offer fine sound quality, but these coloured beauties are great, in fact they sound notably warmer than the 2011 2CD+DVD combos.Saying that, however, there seems to be an issue with "Night thoughts", where there is a seque split between tracks when each side runs out. If this is the matter with not just my copy but with all boxes, then this is very disappointing; especially knowing that, with this being a numbered release, there is no stock to replace any faulty discs. Also, I expected the box to come with an accompanying booklet, just like the one included in the earlier vinyl box set. This release is just as important and comprehensive, so, why omit the booklet from the new box? For these two reasons, I am taking one star away. The raw fierceness of their eponymous debut, the sublime beauty of "Dog man star", the unstoppable passion of "Coming up", the urban alienation of "Head music", the mellow optimism of "A new morning", the sophisticated energy of "Bloosports", and the contemplative nostalgia of "Night thoughts"; all packed in a smart, lift-off lid box that will be treasured by those who ordered one of the 1,000 copies pressed. Nicely assembled and filled with the unmistakable sound that made Suede the kings of glam in the early '90s, this is another gorgeous, prized collectible item to delight avid Suede heads.List of contents:- Suede (1993) (brown)- Dog man star (1994) - 2LP gatefold (green)- Coming up (1996) (yellow)- Head music (1999) - 2LP (purple)- A new morning (2002) (red)- Bloodsports (2013) - single LP with gatefold sleeve (pink/red)- Night thoughts (2016) - 2LP gatefold (blue)* No download code is includedUPDATE (20/11): Demon acknowledge that there is an error with the masters used for the pressing of "Night thoughts" within this set. A new master has been provided by Suede, and both LPs for the album will be repressed and will be available to everyone who purchased the box set. Details will be available via the Suede and Demon social channels, and SuperDeluxeEdition.

Fabulous box set - but Night Thoughts plays at the wrong speed!
I eventually took the plunge and bought this boxed set. Although I already have Dog Man Star and Coming Up on vinyl it was cheaper to get this than buy the other albums separately. Note that it doesn’t contain Sci-Fi Lullabies. The records (my version is the black vinyl pressing) arrived well packed in a very nice presentation box. Unlike previous reviewers my version had pristine outer and inner sleeves with no creases. The sound quality is excellent - clean pressings with only a few minor crackles - despite these very minor issues vinyl always sounds so much richer than downloads or CDs and these pressings are no exception. Good dynamic range, clear vocals and crisp high frequencies. The music is fabulous - but then it is Suede! I had forgotten how good Bloodsports and Night Thoughts are! The only issue is, as with other reviewers from some years ago, this box set still contains Night Thoughts pressed at the wrong speed! It plays perfectly at 45rpm and is in the correct pitch at this speed so no real problem if your record deck can play at this speed. In fact I’d say the sound quality is slightly better on this disc as one might expect as it plays at 45. I am surprised though that Demon records haven’t fixed this issue as it is on their website as an issue since 2017! They claim they will provide a correctly mastered replacement so I have requested this but only got an auto reply saying their offices were closed owing to Covid so I’ll have to wait and see what they do - in the meantime it plays perfectly well at 45, hence I haven’t deducted a star. It’s great to have all these great albums on vinyl at last and hopefully I’ll get a correctly mastered Night Thoughts in due course.

Shame about the creased inner sleeve and no auto rip
Very impressive box set with beautiful looking coloured vinyl, but the quality control on the record sleeves is disappointing. Many of theouter sleeves appear perforated, most of the inner sleeves are blemished with the one for Blood Sports having a massive white crease in it. I would send it back, but I suspect it wouldn't get replaced.Am concerned with the other review of Night Thoughts. Also no AutoRip which is a shame given the box cost over £100

Night Thoughts is mispressed
Night Thoughts in this box set has been defectively mastered and pressed (it plays too fast and cuts into the first cut of the next side). Demon Records are replacing this if you contact them, you will need to do a search on social media for the details. Although it was a good price its low cost showed in the quality of the finished product and it was a little disappointing.

Lovely box set.
Very nicely presented package. Box is of a nice quality with a lift off lid. The vinyls are nice and heavy and so far the ones I've played are good pressings. My only niggle is some of the inner sleeves are creased, obviously been grabbed by a machine at some point looking at the marks, but I'm not sending the whole box back because of it, a shame though as it just detracts ever so slightly overall. There's no book or booklet with this set unlike the earlier version.

A missed opportunity
I eagerly awaited this release but have to declare I'm very disappointed in the sound on the vinyl - having listened to the debut album and Dog Man Star (their masterpiece, in my opinion), I've got to say that they both sound very flat, with no vibrancy or dynamism. Full marks for the presentation, lovely sturdy box and the coloured vinyl looks sublime, but sonically disappointing

Flawless....but....
I KNOW, lots of people had issues with this box set. Also a friend of mine showed me scratches on some of the records or seam splits on the inner sleeves. Seems that I have been extremely lucky as my copy was flawless. Most probably... not ALL sets are bad, so ordering is worth a try.

Got these for a bargain.
Love this band. All these albums for just over €100 what a bargain. Another class collection to my vinyl 👍🏻
