Body Double (Steelbook)

Recibí mi edición limitada steelbook de "Body Double" en formato 4K Ultra HD sorprendentemente rápido y en perfectas condiciones, perfectamente protegida, lo que siempre es un plus para los coleccionistas. Esta obra de Brian De Palma, un maestro del suspenso y el thriller psicológico, es un clásico del cine de los años 80's que combina misterio y un toque de sátira hollywoodense. La película sigue a Jake Scully (Craig Wasson), un actor en apuros que se convierte en testigo accidental de un crimen mientras espía desde su apartamento. A partir de allí, De Palma despliega su característico estilo de cámara lenta, planos subjetivos y tensión creciente, jugando con la voyeurística del espectador. La historia se adentra en temas de obsesión, deseo y engaño, con giros sorprendentes que mantienen la intriga hasta el final. El elenco incluye a Melanie Griffith en uno de sus papeles más icónicos, Gregg Henry y Deborah Shelton, quienes aportan carisma y misterio a la trama. La dirección de De Palma brilla especialmente en las secuencias visualmente impactantes y en la construcción del suspenso. You came for lurid subject matter, then you got it. This is De Palma's 80's masterpiece. You can talk about The Untouchables all you want, and I'll still call this the more interesting and finely crafted film. He got kicked off the studio lot the monday after the premiere. Touched all the wrong nerves as far as critics were concerned. Screw 'em. This deserves the place in De Palma's filmography for how best to screw with an audience. The Untouchables is for buildup and action, but this is made to get under your skin and make it crawl. It might not pass muster for some, given the subject matter, but it's one of my all-time favourites, in a format that does it justice.

An excellent representation of a movie that,as it goes with much of De Palma's best work, is either misinterpreted or is at best judged as a nice thriller. People don't understand a thing of modernity, and how De Palma starts from Hitchcock whom he adores only to depart to a higher sphere of thinking and constructing his visions. Here we deal with perhaps the most complex and interesting investigation of the function of regard in the history of cinema. That doesn't mean we are dealing with a cold movie;contrawise, it's a very personal film, rich in emotions, which you must dig beneath the surface to discover;but that's the way modern cinema works, whether one wants it or not:not with the traditional identification through the drama, as in classic theater and literature, but through the experience that cinema provides in its unique way, and few directors understand that-and teach us about it-so well as De Palma. The booklet that accompanies this edition(I am fond of booklets) unfortunately focuses much on the controversy that characterised the critical apprehension of the film, with lots of pages filled with a stupid interview where De Palma has to defend himself against accusations of pornography (nothing could be sillier than that as the film is a study on impotence, focusing on the mechanisms of voyeurism, without letting the spectator sit back and joy, and so it is exactly anti-pornographic in the strictest sense). At the end, we also have a negative review, full of stupid comments. I'm sure there could be better things to be said about the movie but never mind, the film is there to watch in perfect form, one of the greatest masterpieces in the history of cinema, for whoever can understand what it's all about.
