Drawing Portraits: Faces and Figures (The Art of Drawing)

The books features
I like this book a lot. Advanced drawing skills r taught very well. Step by step tutorials of faces and features. Unfortunately some of the book stops teaching cross hatching techniques. And goes to water graphite pencil art with brush and water based drawing pencils. Is prefer a whole book on portraits with cross hatching style. So luv it and a Lil disappointed too.

cheaper than those on ebay
Good transaction - Comforting verses: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 KJV

Good examples of realist drawing
I'm something of a fan of Civardi's books because I like his clean, "classical realism" style. This book is rather thin and light in describing the details of technique or giving exercises. I wouldn't recommend it to an absolute beginner (if you're just learning to draw, you would probably be better off with Betty Edwards' flawed but effective "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" or a similar book). But if you've started regular drawing practice, and want some good examples of realist portrait drawing along with useful general advice on appoaches to the subject, this book may be worth a look.

I expected more
The artist's skills are excelent, but the book doesn't cover the subject deeply. It just gives us some tips to follow while drawing portraits. It doesn't teach anatomy, or composition. And the method of sketch using an oval to built the face is not precise. I think there are better books on drawing portraits.

Like it!
I think it will help me to render lifelike drawings. I paint with watercolors and I want to get a likeness without spending too much time getting a likeness.

Excellent but get the main book instead
Giovanni Civardi is the consummate artist and I love his drawings. There is another book “Drawing, A Complete guide” and I realised after I bought “Drawing Portraits” that it is, in fact, one of the chapters in the main book. In fact all his chapters are sold as separate books, the difference being the separate books are A4 size, while the main volume is A5. This book consists of 64 pages but is an excellent book in its own right. Civardi demonstrates classic and unorthodox poses and the stages to achieve each. He also covers techniques, anatomy and proportion. The only problem with many books on “how to” is they’re not the greatest way to learn to draw but I tend to refer to them for ideas on shading, drawing hair, etc. and this book is extremely helpful.
